Description

French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu said Monday he had asked some local municipalities to impose partial curfews following violent protests across the nation over the weekend. Following an inter-ministerial meeting at the French interior ministry, Lecornu addressed concerns over the unrest, which he insisted remained largely confined to urban areas. Lecornu also announced a focused judicial response to address looting, committing "massive" resources to identify perpetrators via social media and surveillance footage. Highlighting efforts to mitigate economic damage, Lecornu also unveiled immediate measures to assist businesses and protect employment. Meanwhile, eyewitness video on Sunday showed a Parisian grocery store worker standing in front of his damaged store and addressing a crowd about why demands to authorities were not being made with "class," rather than violence, following demonstrations that erupted into riots on Saturday.
