The Doug Ford government began removing bike lanes from Bloor Street in Etobicoke this week. As Premier Doug Ford readied his war on bike lanes, provincial bureaucrats raised facts refuting his core arguments and had to call in extra staff to deal with a blizzard of public feedback, according to internal records obtained by the Star. The Star recently received the records, from a freedom of information request filed in November 2024, as road crews started to rip out the first of lanes targeted by Ford’s government, on Bloor Street West in Etobicoke, and as protesters were arrested trying to stop it. The government’s urgency to remove bike lanes, as revealed in the records, was frustrated by a protracted court battle that the Ford government won on appeal.

Is it too late to cancel the current project to build an immersed tunnel in favour of a new bridge project to replace the aging and seismically unstable George Massey Tunnel?
