Taylor Swift Is Belle of the Ball in Dior at the 2026 Academy Museum Gala - Vogue

October 17, 2026Photo: Getty ImagesThis evening, the 2026 Academy Museum Gala—a fundraiser to support the museum’s work in preserving and celebrating cinema—was heavy on the star power. Whether it was the night’s special honorees, including Charlize Theron and Colman Domingo, or the actors simply out for some glamorous fun, the red carpet was filled with stellar sightings. Among them? Taylor Swift, who is due to perform at the gala later this evening. Before heading inside to the main stage, Swift hit the step-and-repeat in custom Dior by Jonathan Anderson with Chopard jewelry. The star opted for classic Hollywood glitz, choosing a strapless, icy-blue gown that featured delicate pleating and a laced-up detail at the front. She accessorized with a pair of platinum earrings set with 32.40 carats of diamonds, a gold ring set with 5.78 carats of diamonds, and a platinum and diamond bracelet, all from Chopard’s haute joaillerie collection. A loosely curled lob and a light pink lip completed the look. Photo: Getty ImagesThe ensemble fits right into Swift’s style playbook: When dressing for high-profile events, the singer loves a princess silhouette.

Earth’s Oldest Evidence of Life is Written in Stone – But It’s At Risk of Disappearing - NewsGram

This article is republished from The Conversation under a Creative Commons license. Read the original article. By Heidi Jane Allen, Paleontologist, The University of MelbourneToday, our planet is teeming with life, but it has not always looked the same. Long before forests reached skyward, animals walked on land, and the rise and fall of dinosaurs, our planet was shaped by a much smaller, more unassuming form of life. And we can still find traces of it today. These ancient fossils, the earliest visible evidence of life on Earth, are known as microbialites. Western Australia contains an extraordinary record of microbialites: from the oldest known examples, preserved in rocks almost 3.5 billion years old in the Pilbara, to living examples in the UNESCO World Heritage area of Shark Bay. See Also: ‘The Diagnosis Is Unambiguous’: 2026 Planetary Health Report Finds Pressure Mounting on Earth SystemsOur review of 50 years of microbialite research in Western Australia, published today in the journal Alcheringa, summarises what this archive can tell us about the evolution and resilience of life on Earth.

HBO Max Officially Scores a Global Hit With Sam Raimi's New 111-Minute Intense Thriller - MovieWeb

Omar is an experienced editor and writer who sees life and storytelling as one and the same — there’s always a story to tell. He’s helped shape features, headlines, and coverage across movies, TV, gaming, and the internet’s favorite fandom rabbit holes. When he’s not working on the next piece, he’s usually getting a little too invested in whatever he’s into at the moment. HBO Max has a slightly unusual problem for a streaming service, which is that its own library keeps competing with its new releases. Thanks to the Warner Bros. vault, the platform's movie charts are routinely clogged with twenty and thirty-year-old titles, and on any given week you'll find Se7en, V for Vendetta, or Men in Black holding Top 10 spots that most streamers would reserve for fresh originals. That makes the chart a genuinely tough room for a newcomer. The Evil Dead franchise, as it happens, has always been well suited to that kind of fight. Sam Raimi's original 1981 film built its legend on video store shelves rather than in theaters, and every entry since has tended to find its biggest audience at home.

Living Longer, Disease-Free: Getting Old is Inevitable But Getting Sick as We Get Old is Not - INDIA New England News

Getting old is inevitable. But getting sick as we get old is not. That was the message of the first annual Healthy Aging Symposium, hosted by the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health and supported by the Danone Institute of North America. “Not only do we know now that we can slow aging in the lab, but thanks to advances in molecular biology starting about 40 years ago, biologists and geroscientists have actually been able to lift up the hood and look inside the engine and see why it is, how it is that we’re able to slow aging,” said keynote speaker Daniel Promislow, senior scientist and scientific adviser at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University. Hundreds of experts, students, and postdocs in biology, social science, nutrition, environmental health, epidemiology, policy, and other disciplines convened to share expertise in the rapidly growing science of healthy aging. Presentation topics included environmental health and immune resilience, the biomarkers of aging, and intermittent fasting.

Caufield scores overtime winner as Canadiens down Sabres - TSN

MONTREAL — Cole Caufield scored twice, including the overtime winner, to lift the Montreal Canadiens past the Buffalo Sabres 4-3 on Saturday night. Caufield went on a breakaway after Josh Norris missed his shot on a three-on-one rush before ripping a shot into the top-left corner 54 seconds into the extra period. Zachary Bolduc and Alexandre Texier also scored as Montreal (4-3-1) built a two-goal lead before Buffalo stormed back. Juraj Slafkovsky and Alexandre Carrier added two assists each. Jacob Fowler stopped 23 shots in his fourth start in five games. Jack Quinn, Tage Thompson and Norris replied for Buffalo (4-3-2), which fell 4-3 in a shootout to the Canadiens on Tuesday. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 30 saves. Thompson tied the game 3-3 with 9:48 remaining in the third period after Josh Doan found him alone at the side of the net to eventually force overtime. Norris opened the scoring for the Sabres at 8:21 in a sluggish first period for the Canadiens, tallying his second goal this season on a rebound after Montreal defenceman David Reinbacher turned the puck over in the neutral zone. Seattle Kraken vs. Florida Panthers - NHL Game Recap - October 17, 2026 - CBS Sports

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) Carter Verhaeghe had a history-making natural hat trick, Sam Bennett scored his first three goals of the season and the Florida Panthers rolled past the Seattle Kraken 8-3 on Saturday night. The Panthers became the first team in NHL history with natural hat tricks in three consecutive games, after Brady Tkachuk had them in wins over Columbus on Tuesday and Vancouver on Thursday. Florida also became only the third team in 30 years to have a hat trick - of any variety - in three consecutive games. With four hat tricks already this season - all coming in the last three games - Florida has matched its total from the last three regular seasons combined. Niko Mikkola and Sam Reinhart also scored for the Panthers, and Matthew Tkachuk had three assists. Freddy Gaudreau, Shane Wright and Ryker Evans had goals for Seattle, while Kaapo Kakko and Berkly Catton both had two-assist games. Verhaeghe got his first two goals of the night 1:11 apart late in the first period, then struck again with 13:58 left in the second to push Florida's lead to 4-1. Bennett opened the scoring for Florida just 1:05 into the game, and he added goals in both the second and third periods.

Signs of material exchange between Earth’s core and mantle found in China — ScienceAlert - UA.NEWS

Geoscientists at the University of Science and Technology of China in Hefei concluded that Earth’s core may have transferred materials to the mantle throughout its evolution. ScienceAlert reports, citing a study published in the journal Science Advances. Hydrogen isotopes as a key to the processThe researchers used path-integral simulations enhanced by machine learning to investigate the quantum behavior of atoms and molecules. They paid particular attention to hydrogen transport in the planet’s interior, as the low mass of this element makes its isotopic composition sensitive to quantum effects. The team analyzed the deuterium-to-hydrogen ratio, an indicator of the proportion of the heavier hydrogen isotope. A model of the crystallization of the primordial magma ocean showed that isotope separation between minerals and melt should have been weak. Therefore, the ancient mantle should have acquired a relatively uniform hydrogen isotopic composition, despite differences in pressure, temperature, and model assumptions.
