Video: Mike Malott knocks out Joaquin Buckley with nasty knee to the face at UFC Edmonton - MMA Fighting

Mike Malott started slow, but eventually found his opening to deliver a highlight-reel knockout in front of his home country. Malott faced Joaquin Buckley in the main event of Saturday’s UFC Edmonton fight card in a welterweight contest. After a competitive first round, Malott threw — what appeared to be — a body kick, but his knee crashed into the face of Buckley, knocking out his mouthpiece, and knocking Buckley out cold. Check out the wild finish below. The first round was quite close with both fighters showing a lot of respect for the other’s power. As the second round began, things began to open up as Buckley marched forward with a big flurry. Malott was able to clinch Buckley up against the fence, possibly to wear down on the powerful “New Mansa.”As things separated, Malott found the opening for the knockout blow. With the win, “Proper” has now won five straight, finishing three of those opponents. In his post-fight interview with Paul Felder, Malott let it be known that while he may not steal the show at a press conference, or in an interview setting, he’s certainly capable of doing it inside the octagon anytime he competes.

Seattle Kraken vs. Florida Panthers - NHL Game Recap - October 17, 2026 - CBS Sports

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) Carter Verhaeghe had a history-making natural hat trick, Sam Bennett scored his first three goals of the season and the Florida Panthers rolled past the Seattle Kraken 8-3 on Saturday night. The Panthers became the first team in NHL history with natural hat tricks in three consecutive games, after Brady Tkachuk had them in wins over Columbus on Tuesday and Vancouver on Thursday. Florida also became only the third team in 30 years to have a hat trick - of any variety - in three consecutive games. With four hat tricks already this season - all coming in the last three games - Florida has matched its total from the last three regular seasons combined. Niko Mikkola and Sam Reinhart also scored for the Panthers, and Matthew Tkachuk had three assists. Freddy Gaudreau, Shane Wright and Ryker Evans had goals for Seattle, while Kaapo Kakko and Berkly Catton both had two-assist games. Verhaeghe got his first two goals of the night 1:11 apart late in the first period, then struck again with 13:58 left in the second to push Florida's lead to 4-1. Bennett opened the scoring for Florida just 1:05 into the game, and he added goals in both the second and third periods.

Stampeders keep playoff hopes alive with win over Lions - TSN

CALGARY — The Calgary Stampeders didn't know if they were done for the year after their regular-season finale in the CFL. They avoided elimination from playoff contention with a 32-13 victory over the visiting B. C. Lions on Saturday, but will spend a few days in football limbo during a season-ending bye week awaiting the outcome of next Friday's game between the Lions and Winnipeg Blue Bombers (8-9) to know their fate. Calgary (9-9) needs the team they just beat to defeat the Blue Bombers, which would vault the Stampeders into the post-season picture. It's an awkward head space for Stampeder coaches and players to be in as they have zero influence over their playoff chances now, and must depend on a divisional rival to do them a favour. "It's a little awkward," concurred Calgary's quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. "We could have helped ourselves out earlier in the year. You can't go back on it. It is what it is. We're just going to sit back and see what happens. "The Edmonton Elks (13-4) secured first in the West Division with Friday's win over the Blue Bombers, which also allowed the Lions (10-7) to clinch second. The Elks will host the division final Nov.
