Virtual Course Launch: Clubfoot can be treated: A course for healthcare workers - Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)

Join us on Friday, October 30, at 10:00 a.m. (Washington, D. C. time) for the "Virtual Course Launch: Clubfoot can be treated: A course for healthcare workers". BackgroundClubfoot is one of the most common congenital musculoskeletal disorders and is a preventable cause of disability when not identified and treated in a timely manner. However, through early detection, appropriate referral and access to appropriate treatment, it is possible to achieve favorable functional outcomes and avoid the consequences associated with lack of treatment. In this context, the training of health workers plays a key role. Timely recognition of clubfoot from birth, appropriate guidance to families, and early referral to trained services for its treatment are essential components for improving access to and outcomes of care. In 2023, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), in conjunction with MiracleFeet, launched the virtual course "Clubfoot is treatable: a course for Health Workers", available through PAHO's Virtual Campus of Public Health. The initiative sought to strengthen the knowledge of health teams and promote the timely detection and referral of children with clubfoot.

Washington, D. C., September 30, 2026 (PAHO) – The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Regional Office for the Americas of the World Health Organization (WHO), and Canada’s Bruyère Health Research Institute (Bruyère Health RI) have signed a new five-year framework agreement to strengthen collaboration on disease elimination, health equity, innovation, and capacity-building across the Americas. The agreement will support PAHO’s Disease Elimination Initiative and other shared regional public health priorities by mobilizing expertise, strengthening partnerships, and promoting evidence-informed approaches to improve health outcomes, particularly among populations living in situations of vulnerability. Approved by PAHO Member States in 2019, the Disease Elimination Initiative seeks to eliminate more than 30 communicable diseases and related conditions in the Americas through integrated, sustainable, people-centered, and equity-focused approaches that strengthen health systems, address the social and environmental determinants of health, and promote multisectoral collaboration.

How new aviation technology is upgrading our flight deck - Cathay Pacific

Following last month’s Electronic Flight Folder (EFF) explainer, we take a closer look at some of the applications within the platform. Developed by our subsidiary, Cathay Technologies, the EFF combines decades of operational expertise with live data feeds, delivering real-time information directly to pilots’ iPads and helping crews make faster and better-informed decisions. One example is EDG (En-route Diversion Guide). If a flight needs to divert because of a medical emergency, technical issue or cabin depressurisation, pilots must quickly identify a suitable alternate airport. In the past, that involved what General Manager Operations Captain James Toye describes as a “convoluted procedure”. Crews relied on static diversion maps showing alternate airports and surrounding terrain, based on assumptions about seasonal winds, aircraft weight and fuel load.
