[AP Photo/Jacquelyn Martin]US President Donald Trump hosted the heads of Nvidia, Meta, Google, Microsoft, Amazon and other technology companies for lunch at the White House Tuesday, declaring that the industry should regulate itself and presenting a “voluntary” accord with no enforcement mechanism. This was the latest in a series of such meetings held since Trump’s reelection, in which the fascist president has made clear the total subservience of his administration to the needs of the oligarchy. “There’s a belief that there should be tremendous self-regulation, and we automatically have regulation with the Department of Justice, the FBI, all of that. But the self-regulation is very important,” Trump told reporters in the East Room, with the executives beside him.

After failed execution, health workers say Tennessee's method flouts medical ethics - NPR

The Riverbend Maximum Security Institution is seen Thursday, Dec. 11, 2025, in Nashville, Tenn. This story describes the lethal injection procedure used in a death penalty. In May, a group of healthcare workers spent about an hour trying to establish complete IV access so they could inject Tony Carruthers, an inmate at the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville, with a lethal dose of sedative. Maria DeLiberato, an attorney for Carruthers, was in the room. She said the workers stuck his arms and feet with needles, to no avail. A doctor then tried to insert a central line through his collarbone and shoulder. That didn't work, either.

We’re introducing SynthID Bio, bringing our watermarking technology to synthetic biology. - blog.google

Today, we’re introducing SynthID Bio, a new technology that watermarks AI-designed proteins while preserving their biological function. SynthID Bio embeds an imperceptible, verifiable watermark directly into biological designs, such as AI-generated protein sequences and predicted 3D structures. In laboratory tests across target proteins, our watermarked designs successfully matched the performance and natural diversity of unwatermarked versions. This creates a vital provenance layer to strengthen biosecurity and preserve the integrity of open scientific databases. You can read the full blog post and research on the Google DeepMind website.

Data scientists on OpenAI's Safety team can earn up to $325,000 a year, while Anthropic lists compensation of up to $285,000 for a safeguards enforcement analyst focused on child safety.

In the 1980s and ‘90s, chia was all the rage — not as a dietary staple but as terra cotta figurines that could sprout into lush sculptures.
