Image: ParamountThere had been some concern over whether audiences would show up for the new live action Street Fighter movie, but it managed to top the worldwide box office this weekend with a $51.1 million international haul. While optimists had been hoping for a number closer to $70 million, unless ticket sales fall off a cliff over the coming weeks, this is a decent result for the film, which was made on an $82 million budget, according to Deadline.

Fall brings drama to Stage 212 with “The Shark is Broken,” a seriocomic look at the making of “Jaws” by Ian Shaw and Joseph Nixon. “The Shark is Broken” will be presented Nov. 13-15 and 20-22 at the La Salle theater. “The Shark is Broken” takes a comedic deep dive into the tumultuous, murky waters of the making of a major motion picture with dueling co-stars, unpredictable weather and a shark prop whose constant breakdowns are looking like an omen for the future of the movie. Short tempers and short circuits of “Jaws” stars Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss and Roy Scheider take center stage as they bond, argue, drink, gamble and pray for an end to the film shoot, not knowing it will change their lives forever. Appearing in the cast are Forrest Boes as Richard Dreyfuss, Joshua Bush as Roy Scheider and Jeff Sudakov as Robert Shaw. Production staff includes director Dave Roden, co-producers Amanda Hillstrom and Larry Kelsey, assistant director Jennifer Rexius, costume/prop coordinator Vicky Bickel, set builder Douglas Alleman, technical/artistic associate Lisa Gifford, light operator Yvette Lucas and sound operator Kyle Foley. Friday evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m.

Soaring freight is forcing oil producers into discounts, pushing delivered prices towards $140/bbl in China and prompting producers to absorb more transport costs to secure buyers. India is attracting more Brazilian and West African barrels as shorter voyages improve sellers’ returns, while Chinese refiners hold out for cheaper deliveries.

HEX erases $246 million in market cap after founder detained in TurkeyThe HEX market cap fell from $561 million to $315 million this week after founder Richard Schueler — better known to the crypto community as Richard Heart — was detained by authorities in Istanbul on October 14. Police seized $7.15 million in cash along with firearms and ammunition during an early morning raid in Istanbul’s Beşiktaş district, alongside searches of 15 related addresses according to Turkish Justice Minister Akın Gürlek. Police impounded nine luxury vehicles registered to Schueler’s wife according to news agency Anadolu. The haul reportedly included 28 watches, 300 bags and 19 graphics cards. Interpol issued a “Red Notice” for Schueler’s two years ago over allegations of tax fraud and assault, after Finnish authorities sought his arrest. A spokesperson for Finland’s National Bureau of Investigations declined to comment on the matter. Turkish media refer to Schueler as “Whale James” and have linked him to a $1 billion unregistered securities offering in the US. However that case was dismissed by a US judge in February 2025.

Instead, regulations vary from one state to the next, and the amusement park industry has for decades fought against changes to strengthen federal oversight. In Georgia, annual inspections are overseen by the state’s Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner. New York City Public Schools is banning more than half a million students from using artificial intelligence for the 2026-2027 academic year, the school district confirmed to ABC News. The nation's largest school district said it will begin the school year next week with a sweeping ban on AI for students in in 2-K through eighth grade. In a statement to ABC News, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said that the city is implementing a moratorium on generative AI for students in pre-school or 2-K through eighth grade and will spend the next year "studying the impacts of this technology. "Mamdani wrote in part, “the tech industry wants us to believe that A. I.-powered early education is not only inevitable, but necessary.”“We do not see it that way,” he added. The news comes as some education advocates have pushed for guardrails and formal guidance on AI use. The district said it is implementing the most expansive AI moratorium in the nation, eliminating software that uses student-facing AI and banning companion chatbots. The city's AI moratorium does not apply to high school students.

Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins speaks during a forum for candidates for governor at the Alaska Hospital and Healthcare Association annual conference at the Alyeska Hotel in Girdwood on September 16, 2026. (Marc Lester / ADN) Alaskans are hurting at the pump, with prices for gas and heating fuel driven up by the war in Iran. The state treasury, on the other hand, is benefiting. “The next governor is, for worse or better, walking into a relatively privileged position where there’s a meaningful projected surplus because of the cost of oil,” said Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins, a Democratic candidate for governor. Kreiss-Tomkins, a former state lawmaker from Sitka, is the only candidate in the race who has promised he would introduce a balanced budget — one that does not rely on state savings — if elected. The war in Iran, and the ensuing increase in the price of North Slope crude, could make that promise easier to fulfill. If oil prices remain higher than projected through the fiscal year that began in July, the state could have hundreds of millions of dollars — and potentially over $1 billion — in surplus revenue as leaders begin crafting the next budget.

Their eldest child died aged 27 at a rehab facility on 20 September, according to Los Angeles county medical examiner records. The cause of his death has not been disclosed. Crawford and Gerber posted an emotional statement on Instagram on Sunday. “We are beyond heartbroken to lose our beloved son and brother,” it said. “We feel so blessed to have had Presley in our lives for 27 years. “He is a sweet, beautiful soul who loved and is loved, now and forever. We are so proud of how he showed up in the world, with kindness and vulnerability. “We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from so many who know and love our family and even strangers who feel our pain. “Til we meet again our sweet boy.”The message was signed “with love forever” from Crawford and Gerber and their daughter, Kaia Gerber. “After careful reflection, I have made the decision to suspend my campaign for Lieutenant Governor,” Oliver said in a statement shared Sunday afternoon by a spokesperson for the state Republican Party. “This election is too important to be overshadowed by personal matters. I want to sincerely thank everyone who has supported me throughout this journey and ask that my family’s privacy be respected during this difficult time.”With early voting already underway and hundreds of thousands of people already having submitted their ballots by mail, Oliver’s name will remain on voters’ ballots alongside Minogue’s. Minogue said earlier Sunday that beyond calling on Oliver to end his campaign, he would “formally ask for his resignation” should both he and the New Bedford city councilor be elected Nov. 3. Minogue and Oliver were challenging Governor Maura Healey and Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll, both first-term Democrats who have led the Republican nominees by a wide margin in public polling. A New Bedford police spokesperson said officers responded around 11:40 p.m.
