Fall brings drama to Stage 212 with “The Shark is Broken,” a seriocomic look at the making of “Jaws” by Ian Shaw and Joseph Nixon. “The Shark is Broken” will be presented Nov. 13-15 and 20-22 at the La Salle theater. “The Shark is Broken” takes a comedic deep dive into the tumultuous, murky waters of the making of a major motion picture with dueling co-stars, unpredictable weather and a shark prop whose constant breakdowns are looking like an omen for the future of the movie. Short tempers and short circuits of “Jaws” stars Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss and Roy Scheider take center stage as they bond, argue, drink, gamble and pray for an end to the film shoot, not knowing it will change their lives forever. Appearing in the cast are Forrest Boes as Richard Dreyfuss, Joshua Bush as Roy Scheider and Jeff Sudakov as Robert Shaw. Production staff includes director Dave Roden, co-producers Amanda Hillstrom and Larry Kelsey, assistant director Jennifer Rexius, costume/prop coordinator Vicky Bickel, set builder Douglas Alleman, technical/artistic associate Lisa Gifford, light operator Yvette Lucas and sound operator Kyle Foley. Friday evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m.

The shooting happened at about 11:10 p.m. Sunday as seven or eight guard members in a parked van were monitoring the fight on a sidewalk in southeast Washington, in the Eastern Market neighborhood, said Jeffery Carroll, interim chief of the Metropolitan Police Department of Washington. “They exited their vehicle to try to intervene to try to stop the fight from occurring when they heard gunshots,” Carroll told reporters. “An individual that had been involved in the fight had pulled out a firearm and began shooting.”The person ran into an alley, Carroll said, and guard members immediately told the person to drop the gun. “The individual then pointed the weapon toward National Guard members, who returned fire,” Carroll said.
