Four service members killed and dozens injured in fire at Alberta military base

Speaking in a televised address, Prime Minister Mark Carney said the families of those killed had been notified and that the situation was still evolving. Carney said the service members killed and injured were participating in military training when the fire broke out Saturday. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said Sunday 39 people were hospitalized, including at least 19 in critical condition. Flags would fly at half-staff on federal buildings across the country in honor of those affected by the tragedy, Carney said. The prime minister said those affected included reservists and soldiers from Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, one of Canada’s most storied military regiments. The personnel had come from bases across the country to train at Wainwright. Carney said the wounded were being treated in Wainwright, Edmonton, Red Deer, and Calgary. Cathy Keane, a mayoral candidate in Ontario, said her eldest son was among the military personnel critically injured. “As a mother, right now I need to be with my son and family,” she wrote on Facebook, saying she was traveling to Alberta.

Fairbairn’s last-second 49-yard FG gives Texans 34-31 win over Jaguars at Wembley Stadium

LONDON -- Ka’imi Fairbairn kicked a 49-yard field goal as time expired, C. J. Stroud threw three touchdown passes, and the Houston Texans beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 34-31 on the slick grass of Wembley Stadium on Sunday. Cam Little’s 60-yard field goal had tied the game at 31-31 with just under two minutes left after Travis Hunter intercepted Stroud’s pass in the end zone. Hunter also hauled in a 7-yard touchdown pass at the other end — becoming just the fifth player in the Super Bowl era, including the playoffs, to both score a touchdown and intercept a pass in the same game. Marvin Harrison Jr. made his debut for the Texans (2-4), making three catches as Houston earned back-to-back wins to gain ground on the AFC South-leading Jaguars (4-2). Tight end Foster Moreau caught two touchdown passes from Stroud, who also connected with Jaylin Noel for a 13-yard score in the third quarter for a 24-14 lead. Moreau scored on a 6-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter and a 1-yarder just before the end of the half. Penalties dogged the Jaguars for a third straight week.

Everyone’s watching the Elizabeth Holmes documentary ‘You Can See Everything’ - TechCrunch

“You Can See Everything” is already a box office sensation, with a $15 million opening weekend (based on Sunday estimates). That’s the second biggest opening weekend ever for a documentary film. The nearly three-hour movie —  first revealed last month at a secretive screening at the Telluride Film Festival —  is only playing in 855 theaters this weekend. (In contrast, the weekend’s number one movie, “Street Fighter,” is playing in 3,575.) But it had a reported 2,000 sellout screenings, and the reviews are overwhelmingly positive; “You Can See Everything” currently has a score of 99% on both Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic.

Mepolizumab Reduces Systemic Corticosteroid Exposure in Eosinophilic COPD - HCPLive

In pooled phase 3 data, mepolizumab lowered mean yearly systemic corticosteroid exposure by 178.97 mg in patients with a BEC of ≥150 cells/µL. Mepolizumab (Nucala) reduced total yearly systemic corticosteroid (SCS) exposure, particularly high-dose courses, in patients with COPD and type 2 inflammation receiving inhaled triple therapy, according to pooled phase 3 data presented at the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) 2026 Annual Meeting in Phoenix.¹,²Although treatment guidelines recommend SCS for COPD exacerbations, these agents are associated with complications in this population, prompting interest in targeted therapies capable of limiting their use.¹ Mepolizumab, a humanized monoclonal antibody targeting interleukin-5 (IL-5), is approved for patients with COPD and an eosinophilic phenotype.

Multiple people killed, dozens injured in explosion at Canadian military training base

Multiple people were killed and dozens more were injured when an explosion erupted at a Canadian military base, according to authorities. The deadly blast occurred on Saturday afternoon at the Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Wainwright in Alberta province, igniting a massive fire that was fanned by high winds and spread from the sprawling military facility into the surrounding rural area, Canadian officials said. During a news conference on Sunday, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said at least four service members were killed in the blast and subsequent "violent fire," and that "dozens more are seriously wounded. "Carney called the incident "one of the worst tragedies for the forces on Canadian soil in peacetime. "Citing multiple military sources, the Canadian Global Television Network's Global News reported earlier on Sunday that at least seven people were killed and dozens more were injured. "I cannot recall an incident like this in recent memory," Canadian Minister of National Defense David McGuinty said during a news conference on Saturday night at the military base near the small town of Wainwright. The cause of the explosion is under investigation, military officials said.

This free, open-source tool beats Claude Code, Codex, and Antigravity at their own game, and I'm not looking back - MakeUseOf

I've always been a massive nerd when it comes to coding. In fact, nine-year-old me somehow decided that sitting down and learning Python was a better use of my free time than doing literally anything a normal nine-year-old would do. While other kids were busy playing games, I was busy figuring out how to write my own (admittedly terrible) programs. My fascination with coding never really went away. If anything, the rise of AI coding assistants has only made it worse. Sure, these tools do mean I now spend less time actually writing code myself, and memorizing syntax is something I barely have to worry about anymore. However, they've also made coding a lot more exciting for me. I can focus on experimenting with all the ideas jumping through my head, building things I probably wouldn't have attempted otherwise, and seeing just how far I can push these tools. Instead of settling for one specific AI coding tool, though, I'm a huge fan of experimenting with all the different options out there. Through all this experimenting, I stumbled upon a tool that beats Claude Code, Codex, and Antigravity at their own game. Pi is the coding agent you probably haven't heard of

Climate change affects the quality of one of the world's most important staple foods - Phys.org

Depending on the cultivar, higher concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO₂) in the atmosphere can significantly alter the protein composition of wheat. This affects not only baking quality but potentially also the tolerability of wheat products. This is the conclusion of a new study led by the Leibniz Institute for Food Systems Biology at the Technical University of Munich. According to the study, the adaptation of crops to climate change should in the future focus not only on high yields but also on quality characteristics such as protein composition. The research is published in the journal Food Chemistry. As a result of climate change, the global CO₂ concentration in the atmosphere has risen from around 340 ppm in 1980 to about 425 ppm in 2024. Depending on future socioeconomic developments, it could rise to around 600 ppm by 2050. Wheat, one of the world's most important staple foods, will also grow under significantly higher CO₂ concentrations in the future.

In photos – Nova Scotians gathered for the 44th annual Nova Scotia Fallen Peace Officers’ Memorial Service in HalifaxToday marked the 44th annual Nova Scotia Fallen Peace Officers’ Memorial Service. The service honours peace officers based in Nova Scotia who died in the line of duty. It is a humbling reminder of the selflessness and dedication of those who lost their lives while serving others. Peace officers, first responders, civilian employees, military personnel and volunteers marched from Halifax Regional Police Headquarters, on Gottingen Street, to Grand Parade. Participants from across the province then assemble at the Nova Scotia Fallen Peace Officers’ Monument for the ceremony. Dignitaries brought remarks and then wreaths were laid by peace officers, dignitaries and family members in memory of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.

Elden Ring: Distant Tales Between Manga Matches Road to the Erdtree’s Tone

Given the serious nature of the Elden Ring game, it’s honestly pretty amazing that there’s not just one gag manga based on it, but now two comedies building on its established characters and lore. But here we are! Yen Press previously released single chapters of Elden Ring: Distant Tales Between from Haruichi in English, and now the first full volume is out and explores moments in the lives of Roderika, Brother Corhyn, Rya, and Blackguard Big Boggart. It’s less joke-after-joke than Elden Ring: The Road to the Erdtree, while still offering a similar sort of tone. Recommended Videos Editor’s Note: There will be no spoilers for the character stories found in the first volume of the Elden Ring: Distant Tales Between manga below. While the Elden Ring: Road to the Erdtree manga follows a specific Tarnished named Aseo, the Distant Tales Between dedicates each chapter to a major NPC we may or may not meet as we play. It reads more as a short story collection. Which is beneficial, in its way. I think it might be more appealing to someone coming from the game as a result of the decision, since it could be highlighting someone you connected with when playing through your Tarnished’s story.

I lost my husband. Have I grieved enough before moving on?

Love LettersQ. I am a 40-year-old woman with a young daughter. Four years ago, my husband passed away. He was very sick for a very long time. I met someone new, whom I really like, and we have a great time together. He also has children. Sometimes I feel guilty that I’m with someone new, and that my husband is no longer with us. It makes me feel sad and happy all at the same time. It can be overwhelming. Grief has been a big struggle. I often wonder if I’m doing the right thing, or does my confusion mean I’m supposed to be sitting in my grief a little longer? STRUGGLINGA. It sounds like you’re doing all the right things. I mean, there is no right or wrong here, but this sounds OK. You’re thinking of your late husband and still feeling the magnitude of the loss. You’re also allowing yourself to move on — as you should. You’ve met someone new who seems like he understands you. He also gets what it means to be a parent, which is great. Are two things allowed to be true at the same time? Can you be miserable and happy in the same moment? Of course. Does it feel weird to have all of that going on at once? Sure.
