Most Americans polled oppose betting on elections: Reuters

Most Americans polled by Reuters/Ipsos are opposed to betting on US elections and other government actions. Some 69% of Democrats and 61% of Republicans polled said they opposed using prediction markets to bet on election results. ‘You Can See Everything’ Opens to a Staggering $15 Million, Securing A24’s Place as Hollywood’s Hottest Brand - IndieWire

Audiences can’t get enough of Elizabeth Holmes. Eight years after Theranos, her blood-testing startup collapsed in spectacular fashion, “You Can See Everything,” a gonzo documentary about Holmes, opened to a staggering $15 million from 855 screens. That ranks as the second-best opening for a non-music documentary in history, just behind 2004’s “Fahrenheit 9/11,” which debuted to $23.9 million. Remember, however, that Michael Moore’s takedown of Bushism was released in the hothouse atmosphere of an election year. “You Can See Everything” comes after Holmes has been everywhere for nearly a decade, popping up in podcasts, in documentaries from the likes of Alex Gibney, in best-sellers, and on TV, where she was memorably portrayed by Amanda Seyfried.

Abdul El-Sayed Clashes With Voter On Muslim Brotherhood Question - Newsweek

Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed clashed with a voter who asked him to disavow the Muslim Brotherhood, prompting an extended exchange in which the progressive contender accused the man of questioning his loyalty to the U. S. because of his religion. The confrontation happened at a town hall in Caro, Michigan, on Saturday as El-Sayed faced questions over allegations about possible connections between members of his family and the Muslim Brotherhood. El-Sayed has denied that he or his family has ties to the organization. The Democratic nominee is facing off against Republican Mike Rogers in the November 3 election for the seat being vacated by Senator Gary Peters. Newsweek has contacted El-Sayed's campaign for comment via email. ... Abdul El-Sayed Disavows Muslim BrotherhoodThe voter, who identified himself as Tommy, asked El-Sayed whether he would disavow the Muslim Brotherhood. El-Sayed responded, "Sure. Yeah, absolutely," before questioning why the man believed he needed to be asked. "Because they’re a terrorist group," the man replied. The two went back and forth, with Tommy saying he had not previously heard El-Sayed disavow the organization.

Physicists create a bizarre new quantum state called a fractional fermi sea - Science Daily

Physicists have uncovered a strange new form of quantum behavior in which particles organize themselves in ways that challenge established theories. Even more surprising, the particles maintain a remarkable hidden order despite being driven into an extremely energetic state. In a study published in Physical Review Letters, researchers from the group led by Hanns-Christoph Nägerl, working with theoretical physicist Alvise Bastianello of the CNRS and Université Paris-Dauphine, describe how to engineer an exotic quantum state known as a "fractional Fermi sea. Tesla’s New Roadster Is Running A Banned Formula 1 Trick From 1978 - DMARGE

Tesla finally unveiled the new Roadster last Thursday, nine years after Elon Musk first promised it and a year after he teased tech crazier than anything in a Bond film. Naturally, the internet lost its mind over the bit where it flies, with the single-seat Rocket version launching off a curved ramp at SpaceX’s test facility in McGregor, Texas, climbing roughly six metres into the air, rotating, and landing on its wheels using cold-gas thrusters borrowed from SpaceX. It’s a great party trick, but the more interesting piece of engineering is hiding underneath the car, and it’s a lot older than Musk would probably like to admit. Tesla calls it the Multi-Mode Suction System. Impellers pull air out from beneath the car and seal it to the road, generating downforce even when the Roadster is sitting still. That’s how Tesla was able to drive it upside down on stage, and it’s why the company is claiming up to 2 g of cornering grip. Anyone who grew up reading old copies of Motor Sport will recognise the idea immediately. It’s a fan car, and the most famous fan car of all time is the Brabham BT46B. Toyota Dominates at Halfway Mark of WEC’s Inaugural 6 Hours of Barcelona

After their maiden pole in the World Endurance Challenge, Genesis Magma Racing faced its first in-race wet-weather test at the start of the 6 Hours of Barcelona and lost position to the series' more senior statesman. On a chaotic first lap, Andre Lotterer in the No. 17 GMR-001 lost the lead to its sister car, the No. 19 piloted by Dani Juncadella. But it didn’t last long, as Lotterer faded in the early race bottlenecks; Juncadella went wide and into a gravel trap in turn five. A spinning Mercedes GT3 brought out the first full course yellow, followed by a safety car as the rain continued to pour. With the Genesis fading, the championship-leading No. 8 Toyota took the lead of the penultimate race, with Sebastien Buemi taking the lead from his front-row start by the end of lap one. The No. 8 and No. 7 Toyota TR010 Hybrids went on to control the first half of the race, with Nyck de Vries muscling the No. 7 up from ninth to second in the opening hour. A five-second penalty for Buemi gave the second Toyota the lead early in the second hour.

A 'change' election in B.C., but one where experience still mattered

British ColumbiaCall it the winds of change if you like. But what was just as noteworthy as the massive changeover was the lack of a political pattern in those changeovers.
