Investigations are underway after a stampede at a Hindu religious festival in eastern India left at least 19 people dead and 25 others injured. Event organisers and private security personnel have reportedly been detained for questioning. The incident happened during celebrations for Durga Puja in the city of Kolkata. Local media say it occurred at an exit gate of the venue after heavy rain led to overcrowding, as large numbers of devotees tried to leave.
