Here is SpacePolicyOnline.com’s list of space policy events for the week of October 18-24, 2026 and any insight we can offer about them. The House and Senate are in recess, except for pro forma sessions, until after the midterm elections. This week has two especially interesting events — the launch of JAXA’s Martian Moons eXploration (MMX) mission tomorrow (Monday) afternoon EDT, and a NASA update on the Artemis program on Friday — plus many others. We’re also keeping track of the discussions on social media about the very close approach of Russia’s Kosmos 2612 to the U. S.-registered ICEYE X36 Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite.

Léa Seydoux Was Fearless After ‘Blue Is the Warmest Color’ — INTERVIEW - IndieWire

While accepting the Middleburg Film Festival Achievement in Acting Award this weekend, Léa Seydoux told the crowd that her parents sent her to summer camp in Middleburg. “The first time I came to the United States,” she said, “I flew on my own, and I was eight years old, and I didn’t speak a word of English, which is true. I knew how to say ‘yes,’ ‘no,’ and ‘sorry, I don’t understand.’ So it was it was difficult, but also rewarding. I discovered a new culture. I didn’t know then that I would become an actress, and that this would be my life: traveling, discovering new cultures, and exploring human nature.” That has become the 41-year-old Seydoux’s hallmark, as she accompanied her Cannes breakout “Gentle Monster” (Netflix) to Middleburg with Austrian filmmaker Marie Kreutzer. Seydoux is in the running for the Best Actress Oscar.

Some letters are reported to have contained an unknown substance. The FBI is working with local law enforcement to discover the parties responsible for the letters, according to the news release. At approximately 10:30 a.m. Thursday, a 911 call came in reporting white powder at the Wyoming State Capitol loading dock. No evacuation was necessary, according to Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) spokesperson Aaron Brown. WHP was the responding agency because it is responsible for security at the Capitol. Boise police dog case raises questions on search legality - Idaho Press

BOISE — It turns out that a drug-sniffing dog accidentally touching its nose to a car’s door handle isn’t automatically an unlawful search after all. Sorting out why, and whether the dog was actually searching for drugs, is up for debate. The Idaho Supreme Court on Tuesday, Oct. 14, published its opinion on State v. Pendleton, overturning an Ada County district judge’s decision to suppress drug evidence discovered during a 2021 traffic stop. In October of that year, police conducted a traffic stop on Shawna Rae Pendleton because her vehicle registration had expired. An officer had his drug-detection dog, Edo, conduct a free-air sniff around the outside of the vehicle. Edo’s nose briefly touched the driver’s-side door handle and possibly touched the passenger-side handle. Edo allegedly alerted that drugs were present, which prompted officers to search Pendleton’s vehicle without a search warrant. They discovered methamphetamine; marijuana; alprazolam, which is used to treat symptoms of anxiety; and drug paraphernalia, leading to Pendleton’s arrest, according the court opinion summary.

Kentucky man sentenced for polluting creek in Lawrence County - WCHS

by ANTHONY DAMCOTTSun, October 18, 2026 at 5:06 PMA man was sentenced earlier this week for water pollution in Lawrence County, Kentucky, prosecutors said. (WCHS)LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ky. (WCHS) — A man was sentenced earlier this week for water pollution in Lawrence County, Kentucky, prosecutors said. Josh Ferguson, 42, of Martha, Kentucky, was sentenced on Tuesday to five years of probation, with 12 months of home detention, along with a fine of $20,000, according to a press release from the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Kentucky. Prosecutors said the Kentucky Department of Environmental Protection was notified about the discharge of brine water into the Left Fork Blaine Creek in Lawrence County. On Sept. 3, 2025, a KDEP inspector investigated an area where Ferguson owned two oil production wells, according to the release. The release said a hose that was connected to a metal brine tank ran through a field and into the creek, where it was actively releasing the waste into the water. Investigators said the water was orange with no signs of life downstream of where the hose was, and water samples indicated extremely elevated chloride levels.

Why Manual Cars Switched To Hydraulic Clutches Instead Of Cable Clutches

It's wild how far we've come in automotive technology during the past couple of decades. Who in the '60s would've figured that we'd make 100 horsepower per liter, like with the Ford Mustang Dark Horse 5.0-liter V8, or that adaptive dampers would be common in the luxury market, including on the Acura Integra A-Spec (with Technology Package). Still, one seemingly overlooked aspect of automotive progress is how we actuate the clutch between an engine and manual transmission. While this area's workings have stayed relatively simple, moving from one form to another has improved daily driving in several ways. We're talking about transitioning from cable-operated to hydraulically actuated clutches.
