GovTech lets go of 38 staff members in second round of layoffs

Statutory board GovTech is laying off 38 more staff in the second wave of what it calls a "phased transformation”. The first round was announced in July. GovTech said back then that about 300 staff, or 7% to 9% of its workforce, will lose their jobs and the exercise will take over two years. GovTech says the main roles affected are those in traditional product delivery. It adds that the move is part of a shift towards taking greater ownership of the digital products and services it builds and operates. Before July, GovTech had about 3,900 staff supporting tech needs across more than 50 government agencies. Ivy Chok reports.
