McDavid in dominant form as he plays alongside Draisaitl under Babcock - TSN

Entering his 12th year in the National Hockey League, Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid is off and running to the best statistical start to a season in his Hall of Fame career. The Oilers captain recorded his second five-point outing on the year in a 6-2 win over the Utah Mammoth on Saturday night, bringing his season total to six goals and 19 assists for a league-leading 23 points, the best mark since Mario Lemiuex’s all-time best of 27 through eight games in 1995. The Richmond Hill, Ont., native is now on pace for 241 points over the NHL’s new 84-game regular season schedule, a mark that would shatter his career best of 153 and would place him alongside another Oilers great in Wayne Gretzky as the only players in league history to eclipse the 200-point mark. It is no coincidence that McDavid’s red-hot start has come after new head coach Mike Babcock placed fellow Hart Trophy winner Leon Draisaitl on his wing in a re-worked Oilers top line. “I think Leo and I, when we did play together it was just a one-off or a situation where we needed to find one and we knew it wasn’t necessarily a long-term thing,” McDavid said.

Dispatcher who told Matthew Farwell about call related to Sandra Birchmore to take stand

The Stoughton police dispatcher who told Matthew Farwell that Sandra Birchmore’s friend had called the department reporting their sexual relations is expected to take the witness stand Tuesday in Farwell’s trial in federal court. James Fitton, who still works for the town but in a different department, is listed among a number of potential witnesses Tuesday including an expert who would testify about how Farwell allegedly began grooming Birchmore, when she was a teenager in a poice Explorers youth program. Meanwhile, an FBI agent who investigated Birchmore’s death remained on the stand for the third day in a row, facing lengthy cross examination Tuesday morning about her jarring testimony. Special Agent Heidi Kelsch has spent hours in court reading aloud text exchanges between Birchmore and Farwell including discussions about a child, her threats to expose their relationship to his wife, and recollections of sexual encounters that began when Birchmore was too young to give consent. Farwell, 40, is on trial on charges that he killed Birchmore and her unborn baby, and staged Birchmore’s death to look like a suicide.

‘It was so satisfying when I threw a rock through the screen’: the people sick of being spied on by their smart TV

When Dan had had enough of his television, he threw a rock straight through the screen. The offence? His smart TV was downloading its third update in three days. “It drove me crazy with what seemed like daily software updates that never fixed anything and ‘features’ that never seemed to work,” says the 71-year-old from Illinois. “And of course, constantly trying to push me to subscribe to paid-for services when all I wanted to do was watch over-the-air TV, play a DVD or stream something from my computer.”Some may accuse Dan of being a luddite, but his master’s degree in computer science and decades of experience in telecommunications would suggest otherwise. “The tech is not intimidating,” he explains, “just increasingly enshittified.”The first smart TVs entered the market in the late 2000s, when companies introduced operating systems, media players and apps to screens that were becoming wider and thinner. In recent years, the luxury status of smart TVs has waned and increasingly affordable options are widely available. Tom Parsons, TV and audiovisual editor at the electronics magazine What Hi-Fi?, explains that these cheaper models can struggle under more advanced features.

Clarkson-Grown Flax Was Used To Build This Custom Jaguar

Jeremy Clarkson's latest project is equally interesting for automotive enthusiasts and farmers. Using sustainable materials grown on his own farm, the veteran TV presenter created a coachbuilt special based on the discontinued Jaguar F-Type, with the help of its original designer Ian Callum, who recently penned a reborn XJ220. What may be the first organic Jaguar was created for an upcoming show dubbed "Jeremy Grows a Car: A Clarkson's Farm Special". This is scheduled to premiere in 2027 on Amazon Prime and will air globally. As you may have guessed from the title, the materials used for the conversion were cultivated on Clarkson's 1,000-acre Diddly Squat Farm located in Oxfordshire, U. K. The donor vehicle is a pre-facelifted Jaguar F-Type with the supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine producing 380 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque. The mechanicals of the RWD roadster were carried over, but its exterior and the interior went through a radical transformation.

Ten Hag: Ronaldo 'let the team down' with poor training habits at Man Utd - theScore

Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag said Cristiano Ronaldo "let the team down" during his second spell at Old Trafford, as the veteran forward failed to prepare properly during training sessions. Ronaldo's blockbuster return to Man United from Juventus in 2021 unravelled just over a year later, after his public criticism of the club's leadership led to his contract being mutually terminated. Ten Hag arrived at Old Trafford in 2022 and spent Ronaldo's final months at the club trying to manage the fallout, before his own exit in 2024. In an interview with The Athletic's Laurie Whitwell, Ten Hag revealed that he had to confront Ronaldo after the forward failed to meet the standards he expected in training. "He let the team down, and he let me down," Ten Hag said. "I flew out to Portugal to speak with him about what I was aiming for before I came to United. "The Dutchman said Ronaldo missed sessions, did not reach the required heart-rate levels when he did train, and completed only two of three laps during a running drill imposed after a 4-0 loss to Brentford in Aug. 2022. "I confronted him with this," Ten Hag said.

Surgeons Seeking Dedicated Facility for Hip and Knee Replacements in Metro as Wait Lists Continue to Grow - VOCM

Orthopaedic surgeons are calling for “urgent action” to address wait times for hip and knee surgeries and they’re calling for a dedicated centre to cut down on wait times. Surgeons in the health authority’s eastern urban zone say some 2,800 patients are currently on the wait list for hip and knee surgery, and there are concerns that that number could rise to 6,100 by 2030. The surgeons say the wait time for patients to see a surgeon is about 18 months, while the average wait time for surgery is more than two years. That means the total wait time from referral to surgery is closing in on four years for patients living with pain and disability.(File Photo from 2023: Dr. Will Moores with former Premier Andrew Furey.)Chief of Orthopaedics for the Eastern Urban Zone Dr. William Moores says the system in the metro region has a maximum capacity of approximately 1,000 joint replacement surgeries a year. He says rather than asking orthopaedic patients to fit into a system designed around competing hospital priorities, consideration must be given to designing a system around the orthopaedic patient.

Tessa Virtue's final dance performance included a tender moment with former skating partner Scott Moir: 'Is someone cutting onions?' - Yahoo Lifestyle Canada

Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir may have retired from competitive skating, but their bond is as strong as ever. On Sunday, Virtue completed her final solo performance of a contemporary dance routine in Toronto's annual Fall for Dance North festival. The 37-year-old Olympic gold medalist received a standing ovation and was greeted on stage by Moir, who presented his former partner with a bouquet of flowers. A clip of the tender moment was shared to Instagram by a Virtue/Moir fan page. Fans of the duo, who remain the most decorated figure skaters in Olympic history, flocked to the comments section to weigh in on the sweet interaction. "Is someone cutting onions? " one fan joked of the emotional reunion. "How absolutely gorgeous and appropriate that Scott should be there to celebrate Tessa," another said. "She still looks at him like that," one fan added. "Partners forever! " Someone commented, while another chimed in, "Of course he was there. They have spent a lifetime together. There was nowhere else he would have rather been! "In addition to appearing in the Fall for Dance North festival, Virtue is set to debut her podcast "VIRTUOSO" in November.
