Norte Fire: Orange County resident describes jumping into action to help neighbors

Sunday, October 18, 2026 4:47PMWhen the Norte Fire broke out in Orange County Friday morning, many neighbors jumped into action to help each other. KABCSAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. (KABC) -- When the Norte Fire broke out in Orange County Friday morning, Justin Ziegler and his dad spotted the flames from a distance. When they saw it getting closer to homes, they jumped into action. "It looks like a scene from a movie. There's just fire everywhere," Ziegler said. He and his dad urged one family to leave who were still scrambling to get last-minute items from their home. "The kid didn't want to move. He was kinda staring out the doorway of what looked like a hellscape. Just his world on fire. I helped kinda guide the kid along and helped get them in their car. She dropped some of her things on the ground and I helped her pick them up, shoved them in the car and we took off. "That same neighbor shared an image of the raging fire encroaching on her backyard before escaping danger with Ziegler. When asked by Eyewitness News why he put himself in harm's way, Ziegler replied: "I wouldn't necessarily call it harm's way, I would just call it the right thing to do.

Unlike Michael Che, SNL UK's Weekend Update has lots to say about Shane Gillis - A.V. Club

Further widening the perceived boldness gap between the U. S. and U. K. iterations of Saturday Night Live‘s fake news Weekend Update segment, SNL UK‘s Ania Magliano didn’t hold back about the American show’s widely criticized booking of third-time host Shane Gillis last week. In contrast to U. S. Update anchor Michael Che’s diplomatic and/or issue-dodging lack of response to Gillis calling women “whores” for wearing shorts during his monologue (Che essentially says he was too busy promoting his new Netflix special to think about it) Magliano used her desk time to do a double-shot of jokes aimed at right at Gillis. In a story about an Oktoberfest amusement ride giving out free bike shorts to female riders to guard against creepy men taking upskirt photos, Magliano, with her signature cheeky camera stare-down, noted, “Wearing the gym shorts will protect women from being upskirted, but it does make them vulnerable to something much worse.” The punchline flash of a mid-monologue photo of Gillis brought knowingly uproarious cheers from the English studio audience.

Trump endorses embattled Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for reelection

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — President Trump on Sunday endorsed embattled Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu late in his reelection campaign, a coveted boost because of Trump’s popularity but one that the American had withheld for months as the vote neared and the leaders’ strategies in the Middle East diverged. Trump said in a post on social media that Netanyahu “has been a Great Warrior Prime Minister, and an even greater Partner for Peace in combatting the Islamic Republic of Iran.”Israelis are set to vote Oct. 27, in the first national elections since Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. The absence of an endorsement was a setback for the Likud politician, who had billed his tight ties to the Republican president as a selling point for staying in power. “Thank you, President Trump, for the tremendous support and work together,” Netanyahu said in a statement in Hebrew posted on X. “Together we will complete the mission!”Get Starting PointA guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. B.C. posts highest defeated incumbent mayors so far - ExNews.net

October 18 2026 - Voters in British Columbia replaced 44 sitting mayors in Saturday’s municipal elections, the highest pure total of defeated incumbents among provinces that have already completed their current municipal cycle. In Vancouver, Pete Fry defeated incumbent Ken Sim. In Surrey, Doug McCallum returned to unseat Brenda Locke. Kamloops councillor Mike O’Reilly topped the polls over Reid Hamer-Jackson, and long-time Prince George councillor Garth Frizzell defeated Simon Yu. The total of 44 is higher than B. C.’s usual pattern, where incumbents who run again have historically been re-elected about 80 per cent of the time. Among other provinces that have already voted, Alberta’s October 2025 elections produced the next-highest recent figure, with more than a dozen sitting mayors defeated. Quebec’s November 2025 results and New Brunswick’s May 2026 elections showed lower pure defeat counts. Ontario, Manitoba and Prince Edward Island have not yet held their municipal elections and are excluded from the comparison. Results in B. C. remain unofficial until final declarations by local chief election officers on October 21. B. C. posts highest defeated incumbent mayors so far

Hot-Hatch Speed, Hybrid Efficiency, 300 HP - America's Cheapest 300-HP Hybrid Wears A Toyota Badge

Gilbert Smith is an automotive journalist with over five years of specialized research and writing experience. Before joining CarBuzz in 2024, he produced in-depth buyer’s guides and feature articles for Vehicle History, focusing on practical insights and detailed automotive analysis. The days when hybrids were wimpy, underpowered cars that only populated Silicon Valley parking lots are well behind us. Case in point, the Toyota RAV4 Plug-In was already delivering 302 horsepower the last time we went looking for the cheapest path to 300 hp nearly two years ago, and it's only gotten more powerful since then. In the meantime, the Toyota has gone hybrid-only, but it's still the PHEV model that offers the lowest price on 300+ horses. Here's how Toyota's delivering premium power at a mid-range price.

Toyota Secures Team Championship with 1-2 Finish at Barcelona

After taking the lead on the opening lap, the No. 8 Toyota TR010 crew of Sebastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley, and Ryo Hirakawa never looked back, dominating their No. 7 sister car to win the 6 Hours of Barcelona. Hirakawa ultimately crossed the line 0.583 seconds ahead of Mike Conway in the final stint. With their 1-2 finish, Toyota secured their 13th WEC championship and fifth in their hypercar era. The No. 7 took the lead from the No. 8 in the second hour when Buemi was hit with a drive-through penalty; Harley would muscle it back and, at one point, extend the lead to over 14 seconds. The Toyotas made the right call on when to switch from wet-weather Michelin tires to dry-condition tires but dominated both stages of the race. The final podium finisher crossed the line 39.148 seconds after the Toyotas secured their WEC manufacturer championship. The No. 50 Ferrari 499P completed the podium, with its sister car hitting roadblock after roadblock, pitting nine times during the race, and finishing three laps down in 15th. The No. 38 Cadillac Herts Team Jota was a distant fourth, 52.811 seconds after the winner took the checkered flag with the NO. 83 Ferrari Af Corse 499P close behind.

Someone Built Two Of The Most Insane Corvettes Ever, And Of Course They Used The C4

If absolutely nothing else, Facebook Marketplace is the final boss of window shopping. Sometimes I’m doom scrolling away when I see someone selling a shitton of homemade tamales that I’m sure are both delicious and safe. Other times, I kid you not, I’ve seen sex toys labeled as lightly used (which there’s no such thing as light usage in LA, amiright!). And other times, I’m out with my friends when I find myself suddenly going on another tirade of me trying to get them to buy shitty off-road-ready vehicles so they can join me on the trails. Are they ever gonna buy those off-roading shitboxes? No. Should I buy those tamales prepped by a stranger in a likely unclean kitchen? Probably not. Should I absolutely buy those ‘lightly’ used sex toys? My editors are telling me not to answer that question. [Ed Note: My god…-DT]. Regardless of what you see on any given day on Big Zucks’ Marketplace, there’s always a gambling-like energy that I find when scrolling through it, because a banger just might find its way to you. Today is one of those days.

A 930-megawatt reactor on the South African coast was cut to half power when dead sardines packed its seawater intake and a cooling pump shut itself off, the only nuclear plant in Africa was already down to one machine with its twin in refueling, and on Frida - Autonocion.com

If you’ve ever pulled a fistful of leaves out of a pool pump basket, you already understand the only thing that went wrong at Africa’s only nuclear plant in August. Stuff gets sucked toward the pump, stuff piles up on the screen, the flow drops, and eventually the pump quits. Now swap the pool for the South Atlantic, swap the leaves for a mass of dead sardines, and swap your pump for one that’s keeping a 930-megawatt reactor cool. That’s pretty much what happened at Koeberg, which sits on the coast about 17 miles north of Cape Town. On Friday, August 21, Eskom, the state utility that runs the place, cut Unit 1 back to 50 percent. A cooling pump had shut itself off because the seawater intake was packed with what Eskom called “marine material,” which turned out to be fish. Lots of fish.

Maple Leafs’ decade-long problem proves Jim Hiller isn't the only one to blame - Editor In Leaf

An all-too-familiar trend is emerging in Jim Hiller's first season as head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs. When things get tough for the Leafs, the core takes a slight beating from the outside noise, but the head coach always gets it worse. At some point, we have to wonder whether Toronto needs to admit the right pieces aren't in place and start over, since the same issues keep arising for every coach who's been thrown under the bus. The Maple Leafs put in an uninspired effort against the New York Islanders on Saturday night, dropping them to last in the Atlantic Division. The hope was that the team would come out firing after blowing a lead in the last game against the Islanders. However, it looked like the same ol' story when this core group needed to pull together for a big win, and Hiller confirmed that post-game when talking to reporters, according to Jesse Blake via X. "“It's just disappointing. They could have a full lineup in there and our lack of fortitude to get to the inside makes it disappointing, in any case. “"Jim HillerIn a game where the Leafs struggled to get inside, it wasn't surprising to see William Nylander post the worst forward metrics of the night.

Tiempo: Celebrating Latino trailblazers who shaped NYC at Hostos Community college in the Bronx

TiempoTiempo with Joe Torres airs Sunday at 11:30 a.m. on Channel 7, WABC-TV in New York City. Sunday, October 18, 2026 4:28PMNEW YORK CITY (WABC) -- On this episode of "Tiempo," we'll be on the campus of Hostos Community College in the Bronx to celebrate the contributions of Latinos in the New York metropolitan area. Early Latino history dates back centuries to 1613, when notable figure Juan Rodriguez arrived in New York City from Santo Domingo. Ever since then, Latinos have taken this city—and the surrounding metropolitan area—by storm. In modern times, Cubans settled in New Jersey's Hudson County. Neighborhoods like El Barrio and Loisaida in Lower Manhattan became the centers of Puerto Rican culture. Dominicans established strong communities in Washington Heights and Inwood. Later, Latinos from Mexico, Central and South America reshaped neighborhoods across the five boroughs and beyond. On this episode, we'll spotlight Latino scholars, leaders, community activists, entrepreneurs, and entertainers. They are "Tiempo Trailblazers and Unsung Heroes. "Tiempo with Joe Torres airs Sunday at 11:30 a.m. on Channel 7, WABC-TV in New York City.
