Congenital Cervical Vertebral Segmentation Failure Presenting as Refractory Torticollis in Infancy: A Case of Klippel-Feil Syndrome - Cureus

We present a case of a six-month-old female with a five-month history of right-sided torticollis that showed little improvement despite physical therapy. She presented to the emergency department due to parental concern for pneumonia, with congestion and cough without respiratory distress. Physical examination demonstrated leftward rotation and right lateral flexion of the head and cervical spine, consistent with the previously diagnosed right-sided torticollis. Chest radiographs were obtained in the workup for pneumonia and incidentally revealed segmentation anomalies of the cervical and upper thoracic spine as well as multiple bilateral bifid and fused ribs, more pronounced on the right. The radiographic findings were interpreted as highly suggestive of Klippel-Feil syndrome (KFS). In the setting of refractory torticollis and characteristic congenital vertebral abnormalities, the diagnosis of KFS was made. No acute complication requiring immediate intervention was documented. Referral to appropriate specialists was recommended for further evaluation and longitudinal management. This case highlights the importance of maintaining a broad differential diagnosis when evaluating refra

Nor' easter to bring coastal flooding, winds to East Coast

An October nor'easter is developing in the Atlantic, where it will bring high surf, rip currents, coastal flooding, winds and rain to parts of the East Coast for several days this week. The National Hurricane Center has it highlighted as an area to watch this week for potential subtropical development. However, regardless of development, this system will bring dangerous conditions to the East Coast this week. Fortunately, this system doesn't look to be as strong as the one in September. But the bad news? It could linger for much of the week, so impacts could have a longer duration than you would think. There are currently coastal flood alerts across parts of coastal North Carolina and Virginia, where anywhere from 1 to 4 feet of inundation is possible. Key takeawaysWe do not expect this storm to be as strong as the late September nor'easter. The area most likely impacted the longest appears to be from the Delmarva Peninsula to eastern North Carolina, with more models pointing to primarily eastern North Carolina.

A Cold and Viscous Clue: Waldenström Macroglobulinemia Presenting With Secondary Cold Agglutinin Syndrome and Hyperviscosity Syndrome - Cureus

Waldenström macroglobulinemia (WM) is an indolent mature B-cell lymphoproliferative disorder defined by bone marrow infiltration by lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma (LPL) and an associated serum monoclonal immunoglobulin M (IgM) gammopathy. In this case report, we describe a patient presenting with two serious and rare IgM-mediated complications of WM that require urgent treatment: secondary cold agglutinin syndrome and hyperviscosity syndrome. With prompt diagnosis and therapeutic plasma exchange, the patient's IgM-mediated complications improved, with a marked reduction in serum IgM and resolution of hyperviscosity-related symptoms. This highlights the importance of recognizing the possible complications of an otherwise indolent disease.

Free-scoring Brighton continue to impress and entertain as they thrash Palace - BBC

Not only are Brighton scoring more than everyone else in the Premier League, they are netting better goals too. Centre-half Lewis Dunk won the Premier League goal of the month for September with a 35-yard stunner against Coventry. Now, five weeks later, that has already been eclipsed. Step forward Seagulls team-mate Diego Gomez, who shot from the halfway line having seen Crystal Palace goalkeeper Walter Benitez off his line during Brighton's emphatic 5-0 win over their rivals on Sunday. Benitez made a rapid dash back to his goal and produced a desperate dive but could not stop the ball going in just under the crossbar. "As soon as he struck it, I knew it was in. He's taken the club goal of the season off me," joked Brighton skipper Dunk. "That's the goal of the season so far, what a hit," added former Premier League striker Efan Ekoku, part of the commentary team for BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra. "[It was] superbly struck and right over the head of the keeper from the centre-circle.

They Won The War On Door Handles, Now China's Taking Aim At Touchscreens

Classic gems, tasteful customs, legendary supercars - for Silvian, they're all fair game. He's been in love with cars and motorcycles for as long as he can remember, so it made perfect sense to eventually turn that passion into a full-time writing career. Around six years and more than 3,000 articles later, he is still going strong and doesn't plan on hitting the brakes anytime soon. We all know China doesn’t take kindly to those pesky pop-out door handles, having mandated an all-out ban back in February. It will come into effect on January 1, 2027, and Chinese lawmakers at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) aren’t planning to hang up the gloves just yet. As a matter of fact, the door handle saga might’ve been just the warm-up. MIIT’s crosshairs are now aimed at a trending feature we really wouldn’t mind seeing less of – annoyingly large touchscreens prone to distracting the driver. Quite frankly, we’re more than happy to cheer them on in this regard, and others may want to consider taking this particular page out of China’s rulebook.

Video Games Can't Fix Your Car, But They Are Getting Better At Teaching You How Cars Are Put Together

With prices going up on, well, everything, having the ability to work on your own car (as long as the electronics allow for it) is a big money saver. There's a decent segment of individuals who can't do these things on their own, though, and it's possible, video games can help their journey to learn. Former Jalop Andrew Collins brought up the concept in 2020 with a video game called "Wrench," a grease-less automotive simulator that let you get your virtual hands dirty fixing cars in VR. A similar game released in 2021 called "Car Mechanic Simulator. " Now in 2026, "Wrench" has returned in a much more mature and updated version. YouTuber TalksWithNoise took to testing the concept in real time with a recent video, "I Tried Using a Video Game to Fix My Miata. A new way to detect stabilizing properties of optical devices - Phys.org

In optical fibers, chips and other light-guiding devices, minor defects can scatter photons and disrupt their path. A new study demonstrates a way to reveal properties which, in certain systems, help light wave behavior withstand such flaws. The method could help speed up the search for new kinds of electronics and optical technologies, and contribute to more reliable quantum devices.

Could the Vancouver Canucks and Ottawa Senators hook up on an in-season forward trade? - Canucks Army

Could the Vancouver Canucks and Ottawa Senators hook up on an in-season forward trade? The Vancouver Canucks and the Ottawa Senators are two Canadian franchises that have faced somewhat similar circumstances of late. For instance, both had their American captains more or less force their way into an out-of-town trade. But the results for the two teams have been very different. Last year, the Canucks tanked into a last-place finish, and are once again in the league basement to start the 2026-27 campaign. The Senators, meanwhile, pushed through to a postseason appearance last year, and even without Brady Tkachuk and his natural hat-tricks, they’re off to a hot start this year. The 6-3-0 Senators are third in their division, seventh in the league overall, and firmly in a playoff spot despite considerable injuries already. And since the Canucks and the Senators are in such opposite situations now, it makes sense that they might be able to help one another out via a trade. Especially since each side seems to have what the other side might be looking for. For the Senators, that’s offence, which makes sense.

China looks like it's dumping Treasury debt but may actually be stashing it in Canada and Belgium - Fortune

China was once the top holder of U. S. Treasuries but has been shedding its massive stockpile for years, fueling fears of de-dollarization, but official data may not fully capture Beijing’s actual portfolio. The decline began in earnest around 2021, but as recently as April 2022, China still held $1 trillion in Treasury securities. U. S. data on Friday show that’s been whittled down to just $591 billion as of August, the lowest in 18 years and down from $700 billion a year earlier.
