Description
The results are still coming in from Alberta’s vote on whether to hold a binding referendum on separation, but it’s clear that Albertans have voted overwhelmingly in favour of remaining part of Canada. As of Tuesday morning, roughly 75 per cent voted for the province to remain part of Canada, and already, both sides are talking about what’s next for them. Though they may not be thrilled with the results so far, those in favour of an independent Alberta say it’s time to roll up their sleeves and get to work, as their mission to make the province a sovereign country has just begun. Those in favour of a united Canada, however, are taking a conciliatory tone, acknowledging some issues in Alberta and suggesting a dialogue with separatists begins so they can work on them together. But how did Albertans vote on the other nine questions? Global’s Joel Gotlib reports from outside the Alberta Legislature.
