Reports of white powder at Wyoming State Capitol under investigation - WyomingNews.com

CHEYENNE — Although no evacuation was required, the Wyoming State Capitol was one of several locations across the country to receive a package that may have contained an unidentified white powder substance. According to an FBI statement sent to the Wyoming Tribune Eagle, the FBI and the U. S. Postal Inspection Service are looking into multiple suspicious mailings sent to addresses nationwide. Some letters are reported to have contained an unknown substance. The FBI is working with local law enforcement to discover the parties responsible for the letters, according to the news release. At approximately 10:30 a.m. Thursday, a 911 call came in reporting white powder at the Wyoming State Capitol loading dock. No evacuation was necessary, according to Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) spokesperson Aaron Brown. WHP was the responding agency because it is responsible for security at the Capitol. The Cheyenne Police Department, Cheyenne Fire Rescue and the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office were called to assist, responding to the scene by approximately 10:40 a.m. A WTE reporter initially observed a group of six to seven people gathered in front of the loading dock, discussing next steps.

Boise police dog case raises questions on search legality - Idaho Press

BOISE — It turns out that a drug-sniffing dog accidentally touching its nose to a car’s door handle isn’t automatically an unlawful search after all. Sorting out why, and whether the dog was actually searching for drugs, is up for debate. The Idaho Supreme Court on Tuesday, Oct. 14, published its opinion on State v. Pendleton, overturning an Ada County district judge’s decision to suppress drug evidence discovered during a 2021 traffic stop. In October of that year, police conducted a traffic stop on Shawna Rae Pendleton because her vehicle registration had expired. An officer had his drug-detection dog, Edo, conduct a free-air sniff around the outside of the vehicle. Edo’s nose briefly touched the driver’s-side door handle and possibly touched the passenger-side handle. Edo allegedly alerted that drugs were present, which prompted officers to search Pendleton’s vehicle without a search warrant. They discovered methamphetamine; marijuana; alprazolam, which is used to treat symptoms of anxiety; and drug paraphernalia, leading to Pendleton’s arrest, according the court opinion summary.

by ANTHONY DAMCOTTSun, October 18, 2026 at 5:06 PMA man was sentenced earlier this week for water pollution in Lawrence County, Kentucky, prosecutors said. (WCHS)LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ky. (WCHS) — A man was sentenced earlier this week for water pollution in Lawrence County, Kentucky, prosecutors said. Josh Ferguson, 42, of Martha, Kentucky, was sentenced on Tuesday to five years of probation, with 12 months of home detention, along with a fine of $20,000, according to a press release from the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Kentucky. Prosecutors said the Kentucky Department of Environmental Protection was notified about the discharge of brine water into the Left Fork Blaine Creek in Lawrence County. On Sept. 3, 2025, a KDEP inspector investigated an area where Ferguson owned two oil production wells, according to the release. The release said a hose that was connected to a metal brine tank ran through a field and into the creek, where it was actively releasing the waste into the water. Investigators said the water was orange with no signs of life downstream of where the hose was, and water samples indicated extremely elevated chloride levels.

Italian restaurant chain Il Fornaio to pay $3 million to settle sexual harassment lawsuit

Il Fornaio, a California-based Italian restaurant chain, will pay $3 million to settle a lawsuit from the U. S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission over allegations of “ongoing, continuous and severe” sexual harassment of at least 100 female employees, many of whom were teenagers, the EEOC’s Los Angeles District announced this month. The 2022 lawsuit charged the restaurant chain with creating a sexually hostile work environment for female employees and retaliating against those who reported it. Il Fornaio is headquartered in Corte Madera and operates 15 locations across California and Nevada. Supervisors and employees across multiple locations allegedly subjected female workers to repeated sexual harassment, including “forceful groping in restaurant bathrooms, multiple instances of grabbing female employees’ private parts, requests for sexual favors, and explicit references to sexual activities,” the EEOC said.

'No one fights alone': Thousands walk at Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Thousands of breast cancer survivors, patients, caregivers and supporters gathered Sunday in Central Park and Jones Beach for the American Cancer Society's annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks, raising awareness about early detection, research and support for those affected by the disease. Organizers expected about 50,000 participants in Central Park and another 70,000 at Jones Beach, creating seas of pink at both events as walkers came together with a shared goal: ending breast cancer. Among those participating in Central Park was breast cancer survivor Deanna, who said she first took part in the walk before learning she had cancer herself. "My first walk with Strides, it was I walked for someone else and I didn't know I had cancer... I was diagnosed in November of 2022 and then I had a double masectomy in 2023. "She credited family members, friends and coworkers for helping her through treatment and said the experience reinforced the importance of hope. "Cancer didn't change or take away my hope. It actually brought me more hope. It's about paying forward," she said.
