NEW YORK (WABC) -- Thousands of breast cancer survivors, patients, caregivers and supporters gathered Sunday in Central Park and Jones Beach for the American Cancer Society's annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks, raising awareness about early detection, research and support for those affected by the disease. Organizers expected about 50,000 participants in Central Park and another 70,000 at Jones Beach, creating seas of pink at both events as walkers came together with a shared goal: ending breast cancer. Among those participating in Central Park was breast cancer survivor Deanna, who said she first took part in the walk before learning she had cancer herself. "My first walk with Strides, it was I walked for someone else and I didn't know I had cancer... I was diagnosed in November of 2022 and then I had a double masectomy in 2023. "She credited family members, friends and coworkers for helping her through treatment and said the experience reinforced the importance of hope. "Cancer didn't change or take away my hope. It actually brought me more hope. It's about paying forward," she said.

PS5 emulation is suddenly making big strides on PC

For a long time, PC gamers could access many PlayStation 5 games only if the publisher invested in a bespoke port (something Sony has recently said it will be scaling back). Now, though, rapid advancements in PS5 emulators and other tools are making recent PlayStation titles increasingly playable on generic PCs. SharpEmu was the first of these emulators, advancing from a “very early alpha stage” in May to a current state that can “load the eboot.bin of real games, execute native CPU instructions, and partially handle GPU-related functionality.” The most recent release boasts 10 tested games that reach a “playable” state, including six that developer CursedIfElse says are “fully playable at 60 fps.” That includes simple 2D games like Tetris Forever but also 3D titles like Astro Bot and the PS5 Demon’s Souls remaster running at playable frame rates.

Coyote euthanized after 16-month-old child injured in Atwater Village

PETS & ANIMALS“This tragedy... was 100% preventable," one wildlife expert said. A 16-month-old child was injured by a coyote in Atwater Village, where neighbors say earlier concerns went unaddressed. Monday, October 19, 2026 1:38AMATWATER VILLAGE, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Neighbors are questioning whether more could have been done to prevent a coyote from attacking and injuring a 16-month-old child in Atwater Village. According to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), the encounter happened on Friday off Glenhurst Avenue. The child was treated at a local hospital and released. The coyote was later captured by wildlife officials and euthanized, CDFW said. Neighbor Jason Rosen said he was saddened to learn about the attack. “That really makes me really sad,” Rosen said. Rosen said he has previously seen coyotes in the area. “I’ve seen them around. I actually feel bad for them because, you know, they have nowhere to go," he said. "Our neighborhood is their neighborhood too. "It is unclear whether the euthanized animal was the same coyote that residents said they had seen in the neighborhood for months.

Serial rapist and cosmetics heir is free. San Gabriel Valley community is outraged, mayor says

The recent release of a serial rapist who drugged young women in college bars during the late 1990s is garnering outrage in the San Gabriel Valley community where the man, who is an heir to a cosmetics fortune, is reportedly residing. Andrew Stuart Luster, the great-grandson of Max Factor, was convicted in 2003 on 86 felony counts of poisoning, rape, sodomy and oral copulation of unconscious victims. A jury viewed videotapes he made of himself engaging in sexual acts with women rendered unconscious by GHB, the so-called “date-rape” drug. Glendora Mayor David Fredendall said in a Friday statement that his community was “outraged” at Luster’s release, which he attributed to California voter-approved laws making it easier for those convicted of nonviolent felonies to be released early. “The People of Glendora should not have to worry about their safety because of a decision by the State that allows an individual with a history of rape and violence to now live in close proximity to schools, parks, playgrounds, churches, and community centers. They deserve better than explanations that hide behind the mechanics of a deeply flawed system,” Fredenall said in the news release.
