'No one fights alone': Thousands walk at Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Thousands of breast cancer survivors, patients, caregivers and supporters gathered Sunday in Central Park and Jones Beach for the American Cancer Society's annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks, raising awareness about early detection, research and support for those affected by the disease. Organizers expected about 50,000 participants in Central Park and another 70,000 at Jones Beach, creating seas of pink at both events as walkers came together with a shared goal: ending breast cancer. Among those participating in Central Park was breast cancer survivor Deanna, who said she first took part in the walk before learning she had cancer herself. "My first walk with Strides, it was I walked for someone else and I didn't know I had cancer... I was diagnosed in November of 2022 and then I had a double masectomy in 2023. "She credited family members, friends and coworkers for helping her through treatment and said the experience reinforced the importance of hope. "Cancer didn't change or take away my hope. It actually brought me more hope. It's about paying forward," she said.

PS5 emulation is suddenly making big strides on PC

For a long time, PC gamers could access many PlayStation 5 games only if the publisher invested in a bespoke port (something Sony has recently said it will be scaling back). Now, though, rapid advancements in PS5 emulators and other tools are making recent PlayStation titles increasingly playable on generic PCs. SharpEmu was the first of these emulators, advancing from a “very early alpha stage” in May to a current state that can “load the eboot.bin of real games, execute native CPU instructions, and partially handle GPU-related functionality.” The most recent release boasts 10 tested games that reach a “playable” state, including six that developer CursedIfElse says are “fully playable at 60 fps.” That includes simple 2D games like Tetris Forever but also 3D titles like Astro Bot and the PS5 Demon’s Souls remaster running at playable frame rates.

Qubic freezes chain after attacker drains 1.4K wallets with weak seeds

Layer-1 blockchain network Qubic halted operations Sunday after an attacker reportedly exploited weakly generated wallet seeds to drain approximately $1.4 million from more than 1,400 accounts, according to the project. In a statement on X, Qubic said the network was halted at tick 85,371,949, where it remains paused at the time of writing. Qubic said the vulnerability affected wallet seeds generated using any browser on an iPhone or iPad, Safari on a Mac until Oct. 18, 2026, or the Qubic iOS app before July 2025, leading to 2.94 trillion Qubit (QU) stolen. “87.1% of the drained funds never left the Qubic network and remain frozen in place,” said Qubic. “The remaining 12.9% was sent to MEXC, whose team froze the receiving account within about an hour.” The Qubic theft is the latest in a series of attacks tied to weak wallet seeds. In July, Coldcard disclosed that attackers had stolen funds from wallets whose seeds were weakened by a firmware bug. Similar flaws affected Trust Wallet’s browser extension and the Libbitcoin Explorer tool in 2023.
