Inflamed and Calcified Pilomatrixoma of the Mandibular Angle Mimicking an Epidermoid Cyst: A Case Report - Cureus

Pilomatrixoma is a benign hair follicle tumor seen mainly in children and young adults. Its diagnosis may be less straightforward when inflammation changes the usual clinical appearance. We describe the case of a 14-year-old girl with a one-year history of swelling at the left mandibular angle. The lesion had repeatedly discharged blood and pus, becoming smaller after discharge before enlarging again. Three connected nodules were eventually noted, and an epidermoid cyst was initially suspected. Ultrasound showed a solid subcutaneous lesion with echogenic foci and posterior acoustic shadowing. Computed tomography (CT) demonstrated internal calcification and raised the possibility of pilomatrixoma before surgery. The lesion was completely excised, and histopathology confirmed an inflamed and calcified pilomatrixoma without malignant changes. Recovery was uncomplicated. This case draws attention to an inflammatory presentation of pilomatrixoma that can resemble an epidermoid cyst and shows how calcification on imaging may help guide the diagnosis when the clinical findings are misleading.

Virtual Pulmonary Rehab and Matched Care, With Omid Pourshahid, MD - HCPLive

News|Videos|October 19, 2026 Omid Pourshahid, MD, MPH, discusses Medicare coverage for virtual pulmonary rehab and a matched-care pathway for center-based, hybrid, or virtual programs. Omid Pourshahid, MD, MPH, FCCP, told HCPLive at the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) 2026 Annual Meeting in Phoenix how new Medicare coverage for virtual pulmonary rehabilitation could support a matched-care approach to assigning patients to center-based, hybrid, or virtual programs.¹Pourshahid, director of pulmonary rehabilitation at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, argued the pro side of a CHEST 2026 debate on tailoring pulmonary rehabilitation to each patient.¹ The 2023 American Thoracic Society (ATS) clinical practice guideline strongly recommends offering patients a choice between center-based pulmonary rehabilitation and telerehabilitation.³ Pourshahid noted patient-tailored therapy has been part of the ATS definition of pulmonary rehabilitation since 2013, but the delivery setting was rarely part of it. “Until recently…the support and the financial approval were coming only for center-based pulmonary rehab,” Pourshahid said.

Tailoring Pulmonary Rehab to Close the COPD Gap, With Omid Pourshahid, MD - HCPLive

At CHEST 2026, Pourshahid argued for matching patients to center-based, hybrid, or virtual pulmonary rehab based on a structured assessment. Arguing the pro side of a debate at the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) 2026 Annual Meeting in Phoenix, Omid Pourshahid, MD, MPH, FCCP, Medical Director, Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Temple University Hospital, said pulmonary rehabilitation should be tailored to each patient’s clinical status and barriers to care rather than delivered through a single center-based model.¹The position builds on a long-standing gap in pulmonary rehabilitation uptake. In a retrospective cohort of 197,376 Medicare beneficiaries hospitalized for COPD in 2014, only 2721 (1.5%) initiated pulmonary rehabilitation within 90 days of discharge.² Initiation within the 90-day window was associated with a lower risk of death at 1 year (hazard ratio [HR], 0.63; 95% CI, 0.57-0.69; P <.001).

Three Ways a Pulmonary Fibrosis Lung Health Navigator Can Support You - American Lung Association

Pulmonary fibrosis (PF) is a complex lung disease and falls under a larger group of lung diseases called interstitial lung disease (ILD). Genetics, certain medications and environmental exposures are some of the known causes of PF. Most often the cause is not known, which is referred to as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). In July 2025, the Lung Association, with support from the Feldman Family Foundation, launched the Pulmonary Fibrosis Lung Health Navigator program. The program provides participants with trusted lung disease education, personalized guidance and empowers participants to advocate for their lung health. To understand the impact of the free Lung Health Navigator program, we sat down with program participants to hear about their experience. We also spoke with Lung Health Navigators, Denise and Tiffany, who shared how the program helps those who call. Access Trusted InformationPeople living with PF have questions about their diagnosis, treatment options and what to expect as the disease progresses. Often, finding reliable information can be a challenge.

ccRCC kidney cancer: PET/CT imaging approach improves lesion detection - healthcare-in-europe.com

Case: In a patient diagnosed with metastatic clear cell RCC, foci observed at very low levels on 18F-FDG PET/CT, and some that were not detectable at all, were seen as dramatically dense on [68Ga]Ga-DPI-4452-PET/CT (carbonic anhydrase IX receptor) imaging. Image courtesy of Prof. Arslan Research was presented at the 39th Annual Congress of the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM’26)
