Description

The war in Iran has disrupted the lives and livelihoods of musicians, leaving some struggling to rebuild their careers and others coping with the psychological impact of the conflict. In Tehran, 14-year-old pianist Anisa Yazdanian has returned to the stage with the Tehran Symphony Orchestra after months of practising amid the sounds of missiles and air defences. While concerts offer audiences a brief escape from the suffering, musicians whose workshops and businesses were damaged or forced to close say they have received little financial support. Despite the destruction and uncertainty, orchestras and young performers are finding ways to reconnect through music, which has long played a central role in Iranian society, from patriotic compositions to protest anthems. For many, performing again represents resilience, healing and hope for the future. Al Jazeera's Tohid Asadi reports from Tehran.
