Milestone Cape to Cabot Race in the Books - VOCM

It was a windy one for the 20th annual Cape to Cabot race on Sunday, but that didn’t stop the runners who took on the challenging trek from the most easterly point in North America to the top of Signal Hill. In his first Cape to Cabot, Andrew Peverill, with a time of 1:10.19, was the first male to cross the line while Katheryn Cochrane at 1:22.42 was the first female to break the tape. (VOCM News)Peverill says the most difficult part of the race was the final stretch. “The first hill is pretty nasty, but I don’t think anything takes Signal Hill.”He says as soon as you get on the hill, you start questioning whether you can finish it. Cochrane, who was 9th overall, says the toughest part for her was closer to the middle of the route. “The toughest part is the downhill coming through Shea Heights because you feel like your legs are about to explode,” Cochrane said. Ottawa adds Express Entry points for high-wage Canadian experience starting Nov. 3

Immigration Minister Lena Diab announced Friday that Express Entry candidates with at least one year of Canadian experience in a high-wage job, or a job offer for one, will receive additional points toward permanent residence beginning Nov. 3, with high-wage set at 1.3 times the national median and the labour-market test for those positions temporarily waived. Nino Melikidze, co-founder and CEO of Immitracker, argues the adjustment is a band-aid on a system that needs broader repair, while the larger question of how many newcomers Canada will admit awaits a levels plan due in late November or early December. The change reworks the Comprehensive Ranking System, the grid that ranks Express Entry candidates by age, language, education and work history ahead of the periodic draws in which Ottawa issues invitations to apply for permanent residence. Points will scale with pay: the higher the wage, the more a candidate collects. The Immigration Department pegs the national median wage at about $57,000, a threshold that brings nurses, electricians, engineers, programmers and physicians within reach of the bonus.

PGE gets it: electric semi trucks provide HEAVY DUTY backup for the grid [video]

Oregon utility Pacific General Electric (“PGE”) is highlighting the environmental, health, and grid benefits to electrifying medium- and heavy-duty commercial trucks, calling the battery-backed big rigs “batteries on wheels.” Earlier this month, Oregon hosted its first, fleet-focused electric ride-and-drive event, bringing everything from Class 8 electric semi trucks and medium-duty “last mile” delivery trucks to battery-powered equipment assets like wheel loaders and excavators together in one place so the state’s fleet operators (and fleet buyers) could experience the latest generation of commercial EVs for themselves.

The Blue Jays’ Unexpected Deadline Sparkplug - MLB Trade Rumors

The Blue Jays’ 5-1 loss to the Cardinals on August 2 dropped Toronto to 52-60, the kind of record that usually would’ve made a team a clear seller heading into the next day’s trade deadline.  For the Jays, however, the situation wasn’t quite so simple.  The Blue Jays came within two outs of winning the 2025 World Series and headed into 2026 still in full win-now mode, so the front office was loath to wave the white flag on the playoff race.  And, despite their mediocre record, the Jays were still in the wild card hunt, 4.5 games back of the Guardians for the final AL wild card slot. Toronto’s response was to both buy and sell at the deadline.  Some controllable players (i.e. Jose Soriano, Spencer Arrighetti, Josh Smith) were added to help the team both make a push this season and for the future.  Arrighetti was acquired from the Astros in a one-for-one swap for Daulton Varsho, who was one of several impending free agents the Jays sent elsewhere.  Besides Varsho, the Blue Jays also parted ways with Jeff Hoffman and Kevin Gausman, with the latter sent to the Cubs for prospects Brett Bateman and Ty Southisene.

Letter to the Editor: Who is willing to stand up for Arizona's water? - Arizona Daily Sun

I have written 100 essays about Arizona water, runaway growth, sprawl, wildcat development, the Colorado River and the relentless destruction of the desert we keep claiming we want to save. At some point the argument has to become simpler: enough is enough. We know the river is shrinking. We know groundwater is being overdrawn. We know the 100-year water guarantee has become buried beneath credits, certificates, transfers, replenishment schemes and legal language that almost nobody outside the system can follow. We know every new subdivision creates another permanent demand for water and permanently removes another piece of desert from the map. And still the answer from the growth machine is more growth.

Devs Behind Needle In A Haystack Clone Complain Their Clone Has Been Cloned By Vibe-Coder

This is gonna get confusing real fast, so I need everyone to lock in for the sentence you’re about to read: the devs behind Needle In A Haystack, which is a clone of the original viral haystack game, Needle In A Haystack Simulator, have accused the developers of another clone of the original haystack game, titled A Game About Needle In A Haystack, of copying their code, as the copy of the copy contains exactly the same error messages as their game “word for word.” Even just typing that gave me a headache, so let’s rewind a bit. This isn’t the first time we’ve covered copies of Studio Bitdot’s viral haystack game, Needle In A Haystack Simulator. After several clips of Studio Bitdot’s incremental sorting sim went viral across social media in August, Steam users noticed that several similarly titled games, with inventive titles such as A Needle In a Haystack and Story of The Needle In a Haystack, had suddenly appeared on the platform overnight. As of writing, I count at least fourteen clones of Studio Bitdot’s original game on Steam. One such game is studio NoGlyph’s Needle In A Haystack, which was released on Steam on September 29.

Why Addison 'Addy' Ross From NCIS: New York Looks So Familiar - TVLine

"NCIS: New York" has introduced TV audiences to a number of new crime-solving agents, such as Addison, "Addy" Ross — played by Jacqueline Byers. As skilled and as tough as anyone else in the field, Addy should prove a vital member of the team in "NCIS: New York" Season 1 and beyond. If you're wondering where you've seen Byers before she joined the new CBS police procedural, you might recognize her from her past TV and movie roles. From 2017 to 2018, Byers starred in the CBS sci-fi thriller "Salvation," in which she portrayed Jillian Hayes throughout both seasons. Earlier, the Canadian actor guest-starred as Cleo in the second episode of the Guillermo del Toro-created FX original "The Strain. " In its first and only season, Showtime's music dramedy "Roadies" featured Byers as the character Natalie Shayne — an obsessive fan of the show's rock band. More recently, Byers showed up in Season 2 of AMC's period crime drama "Dark Winds," appearing as the journalist Mary Landon in six episodes.

Tirana sees sixth day of violent protests as Albania’s PM refuses to resign - Al Jazeera

At this moment, no one is clear on what tomorrow will bring, says Albanian journalist Lindita Karadaku. Violent protests have rocked Albania’s capital Tirana for the sixth consecutive day as Prime Minister Edi Rama, who is serving his fourth term, ruled out resigning. Hundreds of protesters gathered again on Sunday in front of the Ministry of Education, chanting “Rama, resign” in a tense standoff with the police, who later used rubber bullets, water cannons and tear gas to hold back the crowds.
