American defense technology company Performance Drone Works (PDW) has entered into a memorandum of understanding with The Fourth Law and Odd Systems to advance U. S. development, qualification, and potential production of Ukrainian thermal camera technology. The collaboration includes Odd Systems, developer and manufacturer of the Kurbas camera family, and establishes a framework to evaluate U. S. thermal-sensor manufacturing as part of Project Foundation.
The collaboration marks a step in PDW’s strategy to build domestic capacity for critical drone and robotics components, a central objective of the previously announced conditional loan commitment of up to $820 million from the Department of War’s Office of Strategic Capital (OSC). It also advances PDW’s goals of bringing battle-tested capabilities to American and allied warfighters: identify superior technology wherever it originates, adapt it to U. S. requirements, and establish the qualification, production, and support needed to field it at scale.
American defense technology company Performance Drone Works (PDW) and Revenant Technologies have entered into a memorandum of understanding to identify, evaluate, and accelerate the U. S. integration and transition to production of selected battle-proven Ukrainian defense technologies.
Revenant will contribute capability validation and selection, Ukrainian partner relationships, U. S. customer engagement, and warfighter integration. PDW will contribute systems engineering, supply chain localization, product integration, testing, and scalable U. S. production. The companies expect initially to evaluate mutually selected opportunities across unmanned systems, counter-UAS, electronic warfare, sensors, and mission-critical components.
South Korea's Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) is developing video encoding technology designed to reduce the amount of data required when video is analysed by AI rather than viewed by people. ETRI will demonstrate the technology at KES 2026, the Korea Electronics Show, in Seoul from 13 October, alongside two other AI-based media technologies. Its AI video encoding technology is based on the MPEG Video Coding for Machines (VCM) standard and is designed to extract, compress and tr
Applications are now open for the 2026 UNDP Timbuktoo Pan-African MineTech Startup Incubation Programme. The timbuktoo MineTech Hub, together with the United Nations Development Programme and ecosystem partners across Botswana, Liberia, Malawi, Nigeria, Zambia and Zimbabwe, invites students, graduates, researchers, engineers, innovators, technical professionals and early-stage entrepreneurs to turn real world mining and mineral exploration challenges into practical technology solutions.
You do not need a finished product or an established company. A clearly defined idea or solution for how technology can be used to solve for the challenge briefs shared by the various UniPods is enough to apply.
Police unit pulls plug on Palantir AI technology5 days agoJeremy BallEast Midlands social affairs correspondentHannibal Hanschke/EPA/ShutterstockPalantir technology has been tested by several UK police forcesA policing unit that tackles serious and organised crime has decided not to continue using software from the controversial US tech giant Palantir after a two-year trial. The firm's technology, which allows large datasets to be analysed and searched easily, including through the use of AI, is being used by militaries and public services worldwide. East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU) said it started a trial in October 2024 to see how well Palantir's software could help it investigate crime without compromising ethics. But it has decided not to fund a new contract and told the BBC that Palantir will now have to show it has cut links with the force's systems and deleted all of its data. EMSOU has been testing the Palantir Foundry system using data from Leicestershire PoliceProtesters regularly target Palantir over Israel's use of its technology in the Gaza conflict and opposition to its use in US immigration enforcement.
The Spanish technology group GMV has tested software from the European Space Agency (ESA) on the Canary Island of Fuerteventura that allows rovers or astromobiles (vehicles designed to move autonomously or manned across the surface of a planet, moon, or other astronomical object to explore the terrain and collect scientific data) to move faster.
Specifically, these tests were completed in Lajares, a town in the municipality of La Oliva, in Fuerteventura, reports EP, to validate an onboard autonomy framework consisting of a mature guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) system, called Fastnav, and a new perception subsystem based on artificial intelligence (AI), called Hawkeye, which uses onboard inference to detect obstacles and hazardous terrains.
