NFL trade watch: 8 players who could be moved before the deadline - theScore

The NFL's Nov. 10 trade deadline is less than a month away, but teams aren't waiting to make big moves. In the last few weeks, four trades sent J. J. McCarthy, Joey Porter Jr., Cam Jurgens, and Marvin Harrison Jr. to new teams. As the deadline continues to approach, more teams will emerge as sellers without much hope of competing for a title. So who stands out as logical candidates to be traded before Nov. 10? Here are eight players who should garner some interest: Khalil Mack, EDGE, ChargersAfter an 0-5 start to the season, the Chargers' hopes of making a playoff run look thoroughly dashed. So there's not much sense in clinging to an aging pass-rusher who is set to become a free agent in 2027. Mack, 35, isn't the same player he was when he won NFL Defensive Player of the Year back in 2016, but he's still surprisingly productive this late in his career. Through five games this season, the nine-time Pro Bowler has three sacks and five tackles for loss. He's already been traded twice in his career, and the Chargers have plenty of incentive to deal him again.

Phillies make Mattingly full-time manager on two-year deal - TSN

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Philadelphia Phillies are keeping Don Mattingly as manager, removing his interim tag and giving him a two-year deal even after a late-season collapse nearly cost the team a playoff spot. The Phillies announced the move Wednesday. Mattingly led the team to a 79-55 record and a spot in the postseason after he replaced the fired Rob Thomson in late April. The Phillies nearly blew a four-game lead for a wild card in the final week of the regular season, then lost in three games to the Atlanta Braves in the NL Wild Card Series. The Phillies were 9-19 when they fired Thomson in April after he led the Phillies to four straight playoff appearances, including the 2022 World Series, and consecutive NL East titles. The Phillies and team president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski were rebuffed twice by former Red Sox manager Alex Cora. Dombrowski was spurned by Cora when he made the move to fire Thomson and again after the season ended, leaving him in both cases with Mattingly. The 65-year-old Mattingly was hired last offseason to serve as a bench coach and had another year left on his contract.

Call of the Wilde: Montreal Canadiens win their second straight in a shootout shading the Buffalo Sabres - Global News

They were separated by only a goal last spring in Game Seven of their second-round playoff series. This season, though, many believe the Buffalo Sabres aren’t as strong without Alex Tuch and Bowen Byram. However, Buffalo has drafted impressive talent to fill the gaps, including Noah Ostlund and Konsta Helenius, both of whom could become stars. In the immediate future, though, anxiety lingers in the Sabres organization after Rasmus Dahlin’s back injury, as he stayed in Buffalo for Tuesday night’s contest at the Bell Centre. The Montreal Canadiens dominated the Sabres over 60 minutes, outshooting them 34-17, yet the game went to overtime and then a shootout, with the Canadiens winning 4-3. Justice got the last word. Wilde HorsesThe Canadiens had to switch defensive pairings after Mike Matheson went day-to-day. Thankfully, the club has seen Kaiden Guhle return, pairing with Alexandre Carrier. That left Lane Hutson to find Noah Dobson on his right. The final pairing had Adam Engstrom and Arber Xhekaj. Story continues below advertisement

Rangers weigh goaltending options after Shesterkin injury; Hellebuyck price too high - TSN

The New York Rangers are off to a hot start as they won for the sixth time in eight games to start the season Tuesday night. But they were on the receiving end of some bad news over the weekend when it was announced that starting goaltender Igor Shesterkin will miss the rest of the season with a right knee injury. TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reported on Tuesday’s edition of Insider Trading that general manager Chris Drury is making calls around the league for a possible replacement. Dreger mentioned the Rangers have inquired about Connor Hellebuyck with the Winnipeg Jets, but the Rangers do not have a sense of urgency and “flat-out don’t wanna pay the hefty price” that Hellebuyck carries. Hellebuyck, who requested a trade out of Winnipeg in the off-season, remains suspended from the Jets after not reporting to training camp and has forfeited nearly $600,000 in salary as of Wednesday morning. As Dreger mentioned in last week’s edition of Insider Trading, Hellebuyck and the Jets continue to explore a trade that works for both the team and the goaltender.

Canadiens not among 10 teams on Larkin’s approved trade list - TSN

While the Montreal Canadiens faithful expressed their interest in Dylan Larkin on Saturday night, the feeling is not mutual as of now. The Detroit Red Wings forward has expanded his approved trade list as he continues to look for a move, but TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun reports the list still does not include the Canadiens. “I can tell you that I checked on this day to see if there was perhaps a little change of heart from Dylan Larkin as far as adding a new team to his list, i.e. Montreal. No, his list has not changed despite the love-in from Saturday night,” LeBrun explained Tuesday on Insider Trading. “It is at 10 teams, which has expanded from the beginning, but does not include Montreal at this point. “But I will tell you this. Obviously, the Canadiens have tried to swing big, right? They tried to swing a big trade for Matthew Knies last March at the deadline. We know how hard they tried on Marchenko from Columbus. They would be ready to engage with the Red Wings if Dylan Larkin had a change of heart. But the Habs can also be patient here. I mean, they got Michael Hage coming at the end of the year.
