A Different World reboot has 'spirit of the original,' says showrunner - Yahoo News Canada

So much of the success of A Different World is rooted in specifics. The sitcom, which aired six seasons from 1987 to 1993, dug deep into the Black experience in the United States. It was set at a fictional historically Black college (HBCU), and the storylines grew from questions of youth and race. But branch out from those specifics, and universal themes start to blossom. Identity. Purpose. A reckoning with history. Social and political justice. Cultural change. So it's fitting that a reboot of the show has come to fruition now, addressing those themes through the lens of 2026. A Different World debuted its first 10-episode season Sept. 24 on Netflix. "What we really wanted to do was bring over the spirit of the original, and I think we had identified what I consider four pillars that were really important," showrunner Felicia Pride told members of the Television Critics Association on Sept. 15. "One was the community feel and the relationships that we all came to love, the friendships, the romances, the family feel of the show. The next was how the show made us feel, and I think that was the warmth that it made us feel and delight that it made us feel.

Hockey world mourning after sudden death of Logan O'Connor's father - Marqueur.com

Logan O'Connor is stepping away from the Avalanche after the sudden passing of his father, Myles O'Connor, at 59. Colorado shared the news hours before tonight's game in Calgary, releasing a statement of deep sadness and support for Logan and his family. Logan is taking a personal leave of absence to be with his loved ones. No details about the cause of Myles' passing have been disclosed. Hockey can wait. Whatever time Logan needs, Colorado should hand it over without a second thought. A hockey schedule works a lot like a train timetable. It keeps rolling no matter what happens on the platform, and tonight that feels cruel. Myles was a hockey man through and through. The Calgary native was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the third round in 1985, 45th overall. He captained the University of Michigan in his senior year, then went on to play 43 NHL games with the Devils and the Mighty Ducks.

IRONMAN World Championship Press Conference Takeaways - Slowtwitch News

Sadly I am of a generation who remembers the days when the pre-race press conference here at the IRONMAN World Championship was, well, a serious affair featuring extremely nervous athletes who, generally, told us all that they would focus on “their own race” on Saturday. (In 1998 a nervous Luc Van Lierde, the defending champion, even pulled out of the race minutes before the press conference.) All that changed a little bit with the likes of Chris McCormack in the early 2000s, but those McCormack, Normann Stadler and Faris Al-Sultan pressers felt more like a fight was going to break out than anything else. Basically, for a long time, there wasn’t a lot of frivolity and fun at the Kona pre-race press conferences.
