Sadly I am of a generation who remembers the days when the pre-race press conference here at the IRONMAN World Championship was, well, a serious affair featuring extremely nervous athletes who, generally, told us all that they would focus on “their own race” on Saturday. (In 1998 a nervous Luc Van Lierde, the defending champion, even pulled out of the race minutes before the press conference.)
All that changed a little bit with the likes of Chris McCormack in the early 2000s, but those McCormack, Normann Stadler and Faris Al-Sultan pressers felt more like a fight was going to break out than anything else. Basically, for a long time, there wasn’t a lot of frivolity and fun at the Kona pre-race press conferences.

Capital World Ltd. ( (SG:1D5) ) has issued an update. Capital World Limited plans an extensive balance sheet clean-up, proposing to reduce its share capital and share premium to write off accumulated losses of about RM938.7 million as of 30 June 2026. The company says this accounting exercise will not change shareholders’ proportionate holdings but is intended to rationalise its capital structure and support future equity fund-raising. Alongside the capital reduction, the company will consolidate every 100 existing ordinary shares into one consolidated share and amend its constitutional documents to reflect the new capital structure. Following these steps, Capital World intends to re-domicile from the Cayman Islands to Singapore and adopt a new Singapore law-compliant constitution, moves that could align its corporate governance with its primary operating jurisdiction and potentially enhance regulatory clarity for investors. More about Capital World Ltd. Capital World Limited is an investment holding company incorporated in the Cayman Islands and listed in Singapore, operating through subsidiaries across various businesses.

Happy World Octopus Day! Every Oct 8, the world celebrates one of the more unusual creatures of the sea. Octopuses are well-known for their eight legs and ability to squirt ink when frightened. They’ve also been known to use tools, a sign of intelligence, and can shape-shift to mimic the colors and texture of their surroundings, an effective way to disappear from both predators and prey.

In late September at a huge international chess tournament in Uzbekistan, 11-year-old Bodhana Sivanandan of England made history. Her strong performance in the contest led to her becoming the youngest person ever to earn the chess title of “woman grandmaster”.
Chess & Rating Strong Players Chess is a game that’s easy to learn. But it takes lots of study, practice, and time spent playing to become really good at it. Strong players are given number ratings by FIDE (the International Chess Federation) based on who they’ve played and beaten. To earn titles like “international master” or “grandmaster”, players must also earn “norms” – official tournament performances that prove a player can beat strong opponents. Woman grandmaster is a special title that can only be earned by females.
