Kentucky Police Plan to Feed a Stolen-Parts Frankenstein Dodge Charger Hellcat to a Monster Truck

Police departments across America have tried all sorts of tactics to discourage illegal street racing and takeovers: increased police presence, infrastructure changes, and plenty more. Louisville authorities have decided to take a somewhat more entertaining approach: they're teaming up with Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Live to crush a confiscated Dodge Charger in front of thousands of spectators. According to the—and I'm not joking—KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky, the car in question is a 2009 Dodge Charger with a slew of stolen parts, including a 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat V-8, the corresponding gearbox, electric modules, exhaust hardware, suspension components, and even the seats. Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) officers seized it during an illegal street takeover in 2024; investigators reportedly managed to track the parts from Detroit and Indianapolis before they arrived in Louisville. (So before you get too upset that this functioning car are going to the junkyard in the sky, consider that it's basically a bucket of stolen goods.)Now that the investigation has concluded, of course, the car isn’t particularly useful to police.

The Paris Auto Show is full of interesting cars Americans can’t have

The Peugeot 205 GTi was a Gallic alternative to the late ’80s-era Golf GTIs that Americans will be familiar with, and it’s into this well that Peugeot dipped for Paris. Or rather, the wild 205 T16 Group B rally homologation special that the 205 GTi gave birth to, a car that won the world Rally Championships in 1985–86. Like the Renault 5 Turbo 3e from last year, the E-T16 Concept shows us that hatchbacks needn’t just be humble devices for running errands; they can excite, too. I’m not entirely sure about that multifunction steering wheel, though. “But Jonathan, I don’t live a block from a metro station, and I need something a bit bigger to cope with my family,” you say. It is true that cars like the 2 CV or ID. Polo will be too small for some. This is true for Europeans as well, and both Renault and Fiat had something for these segments.

Porsche Mission S Concept: Everything We Know So Far

Update, 10/14/2026: Porsche has revealed another teaser image of the car, this one showcasing an image of it from above while covered in a clinging sheet. The picture appears to showcase a large roof-mounted air intake for the engine. Porsche has a long history of spectacular sports cars, race cars, and high-volume performance sedans and SUVs. It has produced just two mid-engined models that could be considered supercars, though: the Carrera GT of the mid-2000s, and the 918 Hybrid of the mid-2010s. Both were instant classics that are appreciated more by the year—and on Thursday, we’ll get our first glimpse at the car expected to succeed them. Here’s what you need to know ahead of the reveal of the Porsche Mission S. It’s (probably) almost a production carSome time on the afternoon of October 15th in the United States, Porsche is taking the cover off a mid-engined concept called the Mission S. While this concept is not necessarily a production car, Porsche rarely reveals a concept that is not. The Mission E, for instance, became the Taycan EV.

Volkswagen CEO Admits the ID. Buzz Is Too Expensive; Replacement Should Be More Affordable

When we at Road & Track first tested the Volkswagen ID. Buzz a couple of years ago, we enjoyed the retro styling, spacious interior, and overall good vibes, but the high starting price and relatively short driving range put a damper on the experience. However, according to a report by Auto Express, Volkswagen is planning to address those specific shortcomings with the next-generation ID. Buzz. It didn’t always seem like a given that VW would even give the ID. Buzz another chance. Sales have been disappointing since the start, and are continuing to fade; Q3 2026 U. S. ID. Buzz sales are down over 82 percent compared to the same period last year. In fact, with just 432 units moved in the U. S. between July and September, the ID. Buzz is the worst-selling vehicle in the VW lineup. But when Auto Express asked VW CEO Thomas Schäfer about the future of the retro-styled EV, he said that “they’re working on it.”NurPhoto//Getty ImagesThat is great news for fans of the quirky van, but what does “working on it” actually mean? Well, that’s where the news gets even better.

Dodge’s Return to NASCAR Could Be Imminent, New Report Claims

Dodge has been out of NASCAR since Brad Keselowksi won a championship in the brand’s last race back in 2012. A return started to seem inevitable when the closely-related truck brand Ram announced its return to the lower-level Truck Series last Summer—and now, it sounds like that comeback is imminent. A report from The Athletic claims that the company is “very close to finalizing a return” to the top levels of NASCAR competition next year. The story, citing “multiple people briefed on the situation but not authorized to speak publicly,” claims that negotiations remain before deals are finalized, but agreements seem set to get the brand back on the Cup Series grid in time for next year’s season opener in February. Kaulig Racing, the factory partner of Ram in the Truck Series, would be expected to field two Dodge entries in next year’s championship as part of the deal. Notably, Kaulig is not a team that builds its own engines. That leaves Dodge with no clear path to supplying engines for its cars, but The Athletic report suggests that a unque deal would allow Kaulig Racing V-8 supplier ECR Engines to produce a Dodge engine while still building Chevrolet engines.

GM Defense Is Prototyping a Self-Driving Chevy Silverado HD Pickup Truck for the U.S. Army

Defense contracting has long been a cash crop for automakers around the globe, and carmakers are once again turn General Motors, for its part, aims to capitalize on the future need for autonomous military transportation. On Monday, GM subsidiary GM Defense unveiled its new heavy duty pickup truck-based Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) concept at the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Annual Meeting and Exposition. GM Defense said the concept vehicle, which is built on a Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD dual-rear-wheel skateboard architecture, will support “silent logistics and casualty evacuation.” Functional trials of the concept model are targeted for 2027. “The modern defense landscape demands advanced capability, rapid fielding and sustainable scale,” said Steve duMont, president of GM Defense. “We do not begin with a blank sheet of paper. By transferring GM’s world-class engineering, supply chain and manufacturing scale directly to the service member, we are transforming customer needs into mission-ready capability faster than ever before.”Unmanned ground vehicles range in size and mission, according to the U. S.

Formula 1 Announces Plan for African Grand Prix in Rwanda, Starting in the 2030s

On Tuesday, Formula 1 announced a surprising plan for an expansion into Rwanda, where a race called the African Grand Prix will be held starting in the early 2030s. F1 says that the deal is a 10-year agreement, meaning that the event should be a calendar staple into the 2040s. Unlike many other newer events that have taken place on temporary street circuits or semi-permanent layouts that do not operate as race tracks week-to-week, the Rwandan event is set to take place on a new permanent road course. That unnamed track is set to be built in Bugesera, around 25 miles from the Rwandan capital of Kigali. Details about the circuit itself, including a layout and a name, have not yet been shared. The race will mark F1’s first return to Africa since the end of the South African Grand Prix, a race held periodically from 1962 to 1993. Only one other race on the continent—a 1958 round in Morocco—has ever been held. The new race will be the first to ever used the African GP branding, an unusual continent-based branding only previously used for the European Grand Prix historically held at circuits in countries that were already hosting another F1 race during the same season.

Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Reportedly Tipped to Return for 2028 Model Year

Rumors of the Hellcat engine returning to the new Dodge Charger are nothing new, but a pair of fresh reports citing internal documents from Stellantis is the best evidence yet of the supercharged Hemi-powered muscle car’s imminent comeback. Initially reported by both Automotive News and Mopar Insiders, these internal planning docs (seen in the Mopar Insiders report) suggest the Hellcat engine will reach production in the Charger at the end of 2027, and be offered for the 2028 model year car. The 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 is also planned to be paired with the ZF 8HP95 automatic transmission and send power exclusively to the rear wheels, unlike every other Charger that now comes standard with all-wheel drive. We certainly weren’t counting on a manual transmission option, though the previous Challenger Hellcat offered it, so it’s little surprise that this new model appears to be automatic-only according to these reports. Additionally, it’s reported that the Hellcat engine will be offered on both the two-door and four-door Charger models. This is only logical, considering Dodge sold a healthy amount of both Charger and Challenger Hellcats in the previous versions.

Tesla’s China business is flipping: sales down 12%, exports double

Tesla sold 381,088 cars to Chinese buyers through the first nine months of 2026, down 11.9% from last year, according to CPCA data. Over the same period, Giga Shanghai’s exports more than doubled to 361,972 vehicles. Nearly half of what Tesla builds in China now leaves China. And Beijing just announced it will cut the tax rebate on EV exports next year.

Tesla pauses Model 3 orders in Canada amid China EV quota

Tesla has stopped taking orders for the Model 3 Premium in Canada, the Shanghai-built trim that brought the electric sedan down to $39,490 CAD. The automaker says it has used up its import quota for Chinese-made EVs and doesn’t expect to reopen orders until March 2027. But the Canadian government’s own tracker tells a different story: 33,069 of the 49,000 permits for China-made EVs in the current quota year are still available.

Tesla still leads US fast-charger growth – but it’s raised its prices

The US has passed 80,000 public EV fast-charging ports, and new charging stops are getting bigger and packing more power. That’s good news for drivers looking for an open stall. The price story is more mixed: Most networks are holding steady, but Tesla Supercharger costs have gone up. EV charging data platform Paren’s Q3 2026 State of the US Fast EV Charging Industry report finds that operators added 4,106 fast-charging ports at 664 stations from July through September. That brings the US total to 80,964 ports across 14,614 locations.

Can Honda’s Civic Type R Rally Car Build Interest in the Sport Itself?

If a rally car crashes in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? I have a feeling the answer is an emphatic yes. An expensive, crunching sound underscored by the horrifying screech of twisting metal. Followed quickly by an equally horrifying stream of expletives and cries of anguish. But it’s comforting to align with philosopher George Berkeley just for a split second as this rally-prepped Honda Civic slithers ever closer toward a slim but sturdy tree. Nobody’s around. It’ll be fine. This story originally appeared in Volume 37 of Road & Track. I don’t crash. Somehow. But that question pops into my head roughly four times per minute for the entirety of my time at Rally Ready in Dale, Texas, while driving this—wait for it—Honda Civic Type R HRC Rally XP. That’s kind of the point with rallying. Each moment is balanced on a knife-edge, and you’re never more than a couple of seconds from the Big One. Rally drivers don’t think like the rest of us. Instead, they shut the door and, I assume, hear a click. Imagination switched off. All distractions completely disregarded. Sanity and logic have no place here. What a sport.
