POLITICSSources say the talks have centered on freeing Stephen Hubbard. Watch ABC News live news stream and get 24/7 latest, breaking news coverage, and live video. ByShannon K. Kingston Tuesday, October 20, 2026 5:44PMThe Trump administration is closing in on a deal with Moscow that would see multiple Americans released from detention in Russia, two U. S. officials and another source familiar with the matter tell ABC News. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner have been leading the negotiations, which are said to be in the final stages, according to the sources. They add that the talks have centered on freeing Stephen Hubbard, a 72-year-old retired teacher who is the only American held in Russia officially designated as wrongfully detained by the State Department, as well as several other U. S. citizens held by Moscow on what the administration said it believes are dubious charges. However, officials caution that while the terms of the arrangement are coming into focus, nothing has been finalized and it’s still possible it won’t materialize or that its scope will change.

Celebrini navigating 1st season as Sharks captain

Barclay Goodrow saw the signs long before it became official. Macklin Celebrini walked into the San Jose Sharks’ locker room in September 2024 as the No. 1 pick at the NHL draft. The talent and potential were clear as soon as he stepped on the ice. It also didn’t take long for veteran teammates to realize the workhorse centre had the “it” factor in another key area. “Ever since halfway through his first year, he’s been the leader of this team,” said Goodrow, a 33-year-old forward with two Stanley Cup rings. “It just comes natural … you could see him slowly gaining his voice.”The Sharks named Celebrini their 11th full-time captain last month after putting pen to paper in July on a five-year, US$94-million contract extension that kicks in next season and carries an $18.8 million average annual value.
