Chicago plans pilot program for new gunshot detection technology as aldermen question delays
CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago officials are preparing to launch a pilot program to test new gunshot detection technology in six South and West Side wards, nearly two years after the city stopped using ShotSpotter. The announcement has drawn skepticism from several aldermen, who say they are frustrated by the lack of details and what they describe as little progress toward replacing the system. The city's chief procurement officer announced the pilot program during a City Council committee hearing Tuesday. The program is intended to evaluate the performance of new gunshot detection technology under real-world conditions. ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. 4 candidates make their case to voters in Illinois' 4th Congressional District race
BERWYN, Ill. (WLS) -- The four candidates seeking to represent Illinois' 4th Congressional District presented their competing visions to voters during a debate Tuesday night at Berwyn City Hall, less than two weeks before Election Day. ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch"The reality is there are four of us on the ballot and people will have a choice," Democratic candidate Patty Garcia said. Garcia, the former chief of staff to U. S. Rep. Jesús "Chuy" García, became the district's only Democratic candidate nearly a year ago. The congressman timed his retirement announcement in a way that left her as the only candidate able to file primary petitions by the deadline. Patty Garcia is not related to the congressman. In an interview with ABC7, she said voters are ultimately more concerned about their finances than the process that led to her candidacy. "Can they put food on the table. Can they pay for rent. And are they going to have a job? I'm going to fight for them. And make sure they have someone in DC who can put people over corporations and can deliver for the district," she said.
