Okefenokee Swamp recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site - The Nature Conservancy
The Nature Conservancy in Georgia is thrilled that UNESCO has officially recognized Georgia's Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge as one of the most incredible natural places anywhere in the world. As a World Heritage Site, now one of just 27 in the United States, the Okefenokee Swamp joins other iconic natural places like the Galapagos Islands, Great Barrier Reef, and Yellowstone National Park as a landscape worth protecting and sharing with the rest of the world.

Construction of a five-gene prognostic model involving T cell exhaustion and metabolic reprogramming for predicting hepatocellular carcinoma risk using LASSO: insights into immune infiltration and drug sensitivity - Nature
We’re sharing this article early to provide faster access to peer-reviewed, accepted research. It is citable and carries a permanent DOI. This version is subject to further edits and will be replaced automatically by the final Version of Record. All legal disclaimers apply. AbstractHepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) ranks as one of the most common and deadly malignancies in the world. Its pathogenesis is closely correlated with T cell exhaustion and metabolic reprogramming, these two critical yet underexplored mechanisms can profoundly shape the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) and drive disease progression. This study was designed for constructing a prognosis risk model for HCC and elucidating its correlations with immune infiltration and drug sensitivity by integrating these two biological processes. An integrated bioinformatics analysis was performed by using data from two datasets such as Cancer Genome Atlas Liver Hepatocellular Carcinoma (TCGA-LIHC) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO, including GSE76427 and GSE10186). Fifty seven overlapping genes associated with both T cell exhaustion and metabolic reprogramming were screened.

Candida auris: A harbinger of further dangerous fungal species? - Phys.org
Visual summary of the hypothesized environmental influences that made C. auris into the pathogen we observe today. Credit: mSphere (2026). DOI: 10.1128/msphere.00109-26 Why has the yeast Candida auris become a dangerous pathogen worldwide in just a few years? This question is on the minds of many researchers. Carla Schuh and Chaitanya Gokhale from the Biocentre at the University of Würzburg have now summarized the current state of knowledge in a review article in the journal mSphere. To that end, they analyzed around 180 studies by other researchers.

Mars’s Giant Canyon Still Tectonically Active, New Research Shows - Aviation Week
Data collected by NASA’s now-defunct Mars InSight lander shows that the largest canyon system in the Solar System remains tectonically active. New research shows that a “marsquake” began 12-15 mi. beneath Valles Marineris due to rocks slipping along a deep fault, scientists with Imperial College...
