The Edmonton Oilers are in Utah tonight for the back half of their home-and-home with the Mammoth, and after Thursday’s 4-2 loss at Rogers Place, I’m hopeful that our boys will be fired up for the rematch. Utah handed Edmonton its first regulation loss of the season, stretched its own winning streak to three games, and made the Oilers pay for mistakes at every turn. The Mammoth crushed on special teams, Edmonton didn’t do enough at five-on-five to claw their way back, and that was the game. As for the rematch? Nothing would be finer than to repay the favour and hand the Mammoth a loss in front of their hometown fans. From my side of the TV screen, the most important thing the Oilers can do in tonight’s rematch is sort out their penalty kill. Utah popped two goals on three opportunities with the man advantage, and that proved to be the difference. The Mammoth’s power play is cooking at 37.5 percent through eight games, while Edmonton’s penalty kill is limping along at 68.2 percent, so handing that group a bunch of time on the PP would be a horrible idea.

GDB 7.0: Oilers face their toughest test of the season against Mammoth (7 PM MT, SNW)The Edmonton Oilers play their first non-Pacific Division opponent tonight, the Utah Mammoth, and many around the NHL are wondering if the Oilers’ 5-0-1 start is due to playing six teams from the Pacific. It is a fair question considering how they fared against teams in the other three divisions last season. The Oilers were 16-7-3 against the Pacific. Edmonton went 6-9-1 against the Metro teams. The Oilers didn’t have a winning record (more wins than losses) against any of the other three divisions, but here’s a quick look at how they fared in 2025 and 2024.2025:

Jets recall prospect Yager amid hot start with AHL Moose - TSN
Published: October 19, 2026 at 11:39a.m. EDTThe Winnipeg Jets recalled prospect Brayden Yager from the AHL’s Manitoba Moose on Monday. Yager, 21, is off to a blistering start in the AHL, posting five goals and nine points in six games with the Moose, including five points in his past two. He went without a point in three games with the Jets last season, posting 10 goals and 30 points in 68 AHL games. In a corresponding move, the Jets placed Josh Morrissey on injured reserve retroactive to Oct. 7. The team said last week the defenceman is week-to-week with an upper-body injury. The 5-foot-11 centre was drafted 14th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2023 and then dealt to the Jets in August of 2024 in exchange for prospect Rutger McGroarty. Yager played four seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Moose Jaw Warriors and Lethbridge Hurricanes and helped Moose Jaw to a WHL championship in 2023-24. Yager represented Canada twice at the World Juniors in 2024 and 2025, finishing fifth both times.
