No. 19 Texas might not bench Arch Manning just yet, but Steve Sarkisian is setting the groundwork should he choose to make a change at quarterback. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports the Longhorns plan to give redshirt freshman KJ Lacey Jr. more first-team reps this week after an upset 27-24 loss to Florida on Saturday. Following a 4-0 start, including a dramatic comeback win over Ohio State, Texas has lost two in a row. Manning, the grandson of Archie Manning and nephew of Peyton Manning and Eli Manning, struggled mightily against the Gators after starting the game with a 17-3 lead. He was sacked five times, including one that led to a fumble on the team’s final possession. Manning ended his afternoon throwing for 173 yards on 14-for-20 passing with a touchdown. The preseason presumptive first overall pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, Manning has shown flashes of brilliance this season alongside some poor decision-making. It’s the latter that forced Sarkisian to concede that a change could come under centre. “We’re not playing very good football right now,” Sarkisian said after the loss. “I have to evaluate everything. It’s gonna be a long night.”Lacey, 19, was Alabama’s Mr.

2027 NFL Mock Draft: Arch Manning First QB Selected, Jeremiah Smith No. 1 Overall - FOX Sports

The 2027 NFL Draft is still more than six months away, but offseason priorities are starting to bubble after a full month of the regular season. Granted, there are a few winless teams that never would have expected to be in the position they're in. Moreover, a quarterback class that looked like it could be an all-timer before the college season has underwhelmed. So a lot can and will change between now and late April. But take this early mock draft as it is intended to be: a guide of today's top prospects as well as a forecast of the biggest positions of need for each NFL franchise. *Draft order set by current standingsWe all know that the value of quarterbacks could push one up to No. 1 overall, but I’m old enough to remember that this franchise once shocked the world by selecting Mario Williams over Reggie Bush in 2006. Put simply, Smith is the best prospect in this class. The Texans already have a talented receiver corps on paper, but injuries at the position have held the franchise back for too long.

Wilson's 2027 NFL mock draft: Arch Manning falls out of Round 1 where five QBs are taken - CBS Sports

Jeremiah Smith leads a loaded class with five QBs landing in the first round With September behind us, Mock Draft 2.0 looks a lot different from version 1.0 – and a lot of that has to do with the quarterbacks. We've talked for months (and in some cases, years) about why this class was so deep at quarterback. And in many ways, it is – just not in the manner some of us predicted. Not only has Arch Manning not looked like the No. 1 overall pick, compared to recent draft classes, but he also hasn't even looked like a first-rounder. I know that will anger some of you, but I encourage you to read this and draw your own conclusions based on the data. Dante Moore hasn't been nearly as efficient either. You can blame a poor offensive line, receivers that struggle to get open, or losing offensive coordinator Will Stein to Kentucky, but it's also often the case that highly drafted QBs go to bad NFL teams. Yes, these are excuses for why Moore's play has regressed, but it's also what he can expect at the next level. Even with Manning and Moore not playing up to expectations, the QB class has been pleasantly surprising.
