The Rhode Island Breakers begin play in the UFL in spring 2027. Courtesy the UFLThe United Football League unveiled the league’s newest team, the Rhode Island Breakers, who are set to begin play in Spring 2027, on Sunday. The team, whose name pays homage to spring football history and the United States Football League team that played in Boston, New Orleans, and Portland in the 1980s, and again in 2022 and 2023 before the merger, will play its home games at Centreville Bank Stadium in Pawtucket, R. I. They share the stadium with Rhode Island FC of the United Soccer League. “We’re incredibly proud to introduce the Rhode Island Breakers to the community and fans across the Ocean State. This state deserved a team that proudly bears the name ‘Rhode Island’ and we couldn’t be more excited to kick off play right here at Centreville Bank Stadium this spring,” said UFL President & CEO Russ Brandon. The Breakers will begin play in 2027 under head coach AJ McCarron, who won three national championships at Alabama under head coach Nick Saban before playing in the NFL and XFL. They’ll also build from the Birmingham Stallions roster for the team’s inaugural season.

For decades, one of the biggest debates among off-road enthusiasts has been whether gas or diesel trucks make for the better off-roader. There are plenty of good reasons to run both types of vehicles on your favorite trails, but gas and diesel enjoyers alike have a new issue to worry about. That would be the new kid on the block: electric SUVs with purported off-road chops for days. While it might've once been inconceivable that an electric vehicle could even come close to matching the performance of off-road all-stars like the Toyota Tundra, the Subaru Forester Wilderness, and even the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the introduction of the Rivian R1S and R1T in 2021 turned the off-roading world upside down.
As it turns out, modern EVs aren't just highly capable on pavement; they can also be tuned for seriously impressive rock crawling, and they even have some significant benefits over their competitors with traditional internal combustion engines. For one, many EVs have excellent ground clearance, and they need fewer pieces of specialized gear to excel on even the most challenging wilderness trails.

Over the past few years, LEGO has quietly added an impressive array of plug-powered machines to its block-based lineup, from hybrid racers to battery-powered excavators and garbage trucks. We’ve rounded them up here.
In putting this list together, I thought it best to group the kits by LEGO theme, which also serves as a rough guide to building difficulty. In other words: the further down the page you go, the bigger, badder, and more involved the builds will tend to get – and by the time you get to the app-controlled Caterpillar DX-11 electric drive dozer and Volvo EC500 Hybrid excavator kits, you’ll be looking at some seriously impressive (and seriously expensive) block-based builds.

Patterns of antibodies in people’s blood could predict the onset of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) a decade before diagnosis, according to research that raises hopes for catching the condition early. Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, the two main forms of IBD, are typically treated only after symptoms appear, when the gut has already been damaged. But scientists found that the immune system sends warning signals up to a decade before diagnosis, paving the way for potentially earlier detection and even prevention. “For too long we have only been able to treat inflammatory bowel disease once the damage is done, and for many people that is too late,” said Dr Arno Bourgonje at the University Medical Centre Groningen in the Netherlands and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. “What we have shown is that the disease begins years before symptoms appear, and the immune system leaves warning signs long before diagnosis,” Bourgonje added.
This year, the informant’s brother told the Times that his sibling’s role in the case went much deeper. And the brother said he actually helped discard a bag, containing a heavy object, in the hours after the murders. Get Starting PointA guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter EmailAn ‘extremely reliable’ informant offered information about O. J. Simpson. Joseph Ippolito, known as Joey, a convicted drug trafficker and mafia associate, escaped from a Florida prison a month before the 1994 murders. Ippolito’s brother said the siblings went west after the escape to Los Angeles. Before his incarceration, Ippolito had operated a popular restaurant there and was a close friend of Al Cowlings, the longtime confidant of Simpson. In the wake of the infamous Bronco chase with Simpson and Cowlings, investigators found photos in the vehicle of one of Ippolito’s girlfriends, along with her phone number. Ippolito was eventually brought back into custody a year later.
Michael Rupert Binnion argued on Oct. 12 that Alberta’s identity is a state of mind built on a shared future rather than a shared past, and that next week’s referendum is a choice between the status quo and lawful, negotiated change. Twenty readers weighed in. Read on for how The Hub community is thinking about this issue.
The essay found a warm reception among Albertans in the comments, several of whom answered it with family histories of their own. William Dahmer traced his people from Germany through Bruce County, Norway, Minnesota, Ireland, and Scotland to homesteads cleared by hand. “But since they arrived here there was never any doubt that they were Albertans regardless of where they had come from,” he wrote. Where he parted from Binnion was on what forged that identity. It was “farm foreclosures by eastern banks in the Thirties and Lougheed’s fight with Trudeau’s National Energy Policy that helped define their western identity. Not any affinity for the United States.”

TL;DR: Get a lifetime license to Microsoft Project Professional 2024 for Windows for $39.97 (reg. $1,129.99), with Gantt charts, scheduling tools, and built-in reports.
Remember group projects where one person did all the work and everyone else showed up for the presentation? Unfortunately, coordinating people doesn’t necessarily get easier after graduation. There are just more deadlines, meetings, and spreadsheets involved. Microsoft Project Professional 2024 helps managers keep track of tasks, deadlines, and resources with scheduling tools and visual timelines. For a limited time, you can get a lifetime license for Windows for $39.97 (reg. $1,129.99). The software helps you organize tasks, assign resources, and build detailed schedules. You can start with pre-built templates rather than creating a project plan from scratch, then use Gantt charts to visualize timelines and see how different tasks depend on one another. That way, you can see who’s supposed to be doing what and when, without having to chase down every update. Those dependencies are particularly useful when plans change, which, as anyone who’s managed a project knows, is practically inevitable.
Cory Morgan has spent more than 25 years fighting for Canada’s oil-rich province of Alberta to become an independent country. On Monday, Albertans will head to the polls to vote on the issue for the very first time. But even if the answer is no, Morgan said he’s in it for the long haul. “I would respect the will of the voters,” he told Al Jazeera. “If they’ve decided it’s not time to go that route yet, then so be it.
