He also warned that “those who looted will have to pay back, and those who sought to bring down the Republic will be held accountable.”On Sunday, the violence and protests had largely subsided, apart from sporadic skirmishes and looting involving small numbers of rioters in Paris, as the unrest gave way to political finger pointing. Politicians from the far left to the far right criticized the government for a police response deemed too weak or ill-prepared, with some calling for Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez to resign. Nuñez told journalists Saturday that the police had not been understaffed, but that it was hard to contain rioters “when they’re scattered in small groups.”Saturday’s unrest, which led to nearly 2,400 arrests, caused widespread damage to several symbols of the state. Among them was a 19th-century city hall largely destroyed by fire in Limoges, a town in central France renowned for its porcelain. Nearly 1,000 police officers were injured, France’s Interior Ministry said Sunday, including seven suffering from serious injuries.
“We love the tourists,” said Correen Demers, 50, better known in a gown of multicolored flowers as “Mother Nature of Salem.”“It’s just so much fun. The tips are just a bonus,” she added. Higher tourism numbers mean more people to entertain — but also fresh blood in the busking community. As a record number of new performers arrive in Salem, veteran buskers are banding together to protect the soul of their craft. Local business network Creative Collective is helping get things organized amid the huge crowds with a new pilot program that lets buskers rent a 5-by-5-foot area for a given day. “There [are] certain iconic folks [who] have spaces they love, so they can have them without getting into an argument with anyone,” said John Andrews, president of Creative Collective, a business support group for Essex County. Community feedback sparked the idea for rented busker spots. Andrews said he’d heard the concern that “as it’s become busier… people come from all over the world to be street performers.”A woman posed for a photo with an actor dressed as Michael Myers, the masked killer from the “Halloween” films, as fog swirled around them.
What we know so far about deadly fire at Canadian military base2 hours agoJack BurgessReutersThe busy training base is located behind fences on remote land in AlbertaA huge fire swept through a Canadian military base on Saturday, killing at least four people and leaving 19 people in critical condition. Prime Minister Mark Carney described it as one of the worst peace time tragedies on Canadian soil in the history of the military. Here is what we know about the deadly incident so far. How did the fire start? The fire at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright broke out at around 16:00 local time (22:00 GMT). Major-General Wade Rutland, Commander of 1st Canadian Division, said a grass fire ignited on a training range and "uncommonly strong winds caused it to spread rapidly and shift direction" towards soldiers taking part in exercises. He said the cause of the initial fire remains under investigation. Earlier, local media reported it may have been started when a gas main was struck during a live firing exercise, but the military later said that investigators do not believe any explosions were caused by oil or gas infrastructure. Carney described the fire as "violent" and "fast-moving".

The growing season came to an end for much of the area Sunday morning, with many places away from the coast down into the 20s. If you didn’t cover or bring in tender vegetation, it’s likely gone. Look for a frosty start to Monday as well, but overall, this week won’t be as cold with high pressure building in from Canada. Monday will develop into a sunny day with highs in the upper 50s to 60. Highs on Monday should reach the upper 50s, with a few spots touching 60 degrees. Boston GlobeOur next brewing nor’easter? The forecast challenge this week is how much, if any, impact we’ll see from a storm brewing in the Atlantic. It’s likely that this storm, which has a much lower pressure than the high pressure areas coming in from Canada, will create a big enough gradient to bring consistent breezy conditions, especially along the coastline for much of the upcoming week. I’ll add in the chance for a couple of showers over Cape Cod and the islands, which could make it into Southeastern Massachusetts Tuesday or Wednesday, but as of now, cloudiness and breezy conditions will be the primary issues.

Brabus is so much more than a regular tuner in our day and age. It is a fully-fledged luxury lifestyle brand involved in a wide variety of pursuits not related to cars, including fashion, high-end real estate, and aviation. But to us car guys and girls, its core identity will always be rooted in car tuning and wild customization. The company’s partnership with Smart started more than two decades ago and is still going strong today, having yielded some fascinating results in the meantime. And with the tiny Fortwo discontinued to make way for the all-electric #2, you can bet your bottom dollar on this replacement getting the Brabus treatment.
More than 99% of the US population lives under light-polluted skies, according to a 2016 study published in Science Advances. With streetlights, brightly lit parking lots, arenas, and passing headlights brightening the night, it can be easy to forget how dark the sky actually is and how many stars appear when you get away from populated areas. Seeing that many stars for the first time can make you pause and remember where you truly are. You are on a rock spinning through space, surrounded by a universe filled with stars, planets, and galaxies larger than anything you can imagine. A remote mountain excursion can combine a dark sky encounter with a day of hiking and sightseeing. After sunset, bright stars emerge above the slopes and ridgelines. These American mountains lie within officially designated dark sky locations that protect natural darkness and the views of the universe it reveals.
In northeastern New Mexico, Capulin Volcano sits among volcanic cones, mesas, and buttes in one of the darker areas of the lower 48 states. These landforms help shield the night sky from distant lights, while the rugged terrain has discouraged development in the area.

CHEYENNE — Although no evacuation was required, the Wyoming State Capitol was one of several locations across the country to receive a package that may have contained an unidentified white powder substance. According to an FBI statement sent to the Wyoming Tribune Eagle, the FBI and the U. S. Postal Inspection Service are looking into multiple suspicious mailings sent to addresses nationwide. Some letters are reported to have contained an unknown substance. The FBI is working with local law enforcement to discover the parties responsible for the letters, according to the news release.
