World Judo Day 2026: Belonging - IJF

In exactly one month, on 28th October, the global judo community will celebrate World Judo Day 2026 under the theme of BELONGING. This year’s message is simple: every judoka should not only be welcomed onto the tatami but should feel recognised, respected and part of the judo family. From clubs and national federations to the largest international events, belonging is what turns participation into a lasting connection. Belonging is a strong, unifying theme for World Judo Day 2026. It expresses a simple but essential idea: judo is not only a sport in which everyone should be welcomed but a community in which everyone should feel they have a rightful place. While inclusion, the theme for 2022, focused on opening the door, belonging goes further. It asks whether the person who enters feels recognised, respected, supported and able to remain. It moves from participation to connection.

Child malnutrition is one of Africa’s biggest health challenges: food aid is only part of the solution - The Conversation

Malnutrition among children under five remains one of sub-Saharan Africa’s most persistent public health challenges. Countries and development partners have introduced numerous nutrition programmes. Yet millions of young children continue to suffer from poor nutrition. Drawing on our expertise in public health, nutrition and health systems research, we conducted a review of recent evidence about child malnutrition from across the sub-Saharan Africa region. The review examined 50 studies published between 2015 and 2025 that covered the forms of malnutrition and intervention strategies for children under the age of five.

Flu and COVID-19 vaccinations are underway. Here’s each province’s approach - Global News

Canada’s provinces and territories have started to roll out flu and COVID-19 vaccination programs, with several jurisdictions prioritizing people at higher risk. The National Advisory Committee on Immunization’s (NACI) guidance on COVID-19 vaccines for fall 2026 was released earlier this year. NACI continues to “strongly recommend” COVID-19 immunization programs for people at increased risk of the virus or severe COVID-19 disease, such as adults 65 and older, health-care workers, and people in long-term care homes. The committee also recommends that programs are also offered to anyone six months and older, though adds people may choose to receive the vaccine based on their own COVID-19 risk assessment or preference. NACI reminds people to wait about six months after getting a COVID-19 vaccine before getting a new dose. The committee also released guidance on influenza, saying the flu vaccine should be prioritized for groups at high risk of influenza-related complications or hospitalization. Menopause is a major health milestone, yet health records barely track it - new research - The Conversation

Anyone with ovaries who lives long enough will experience menopause. While menopause is a natural transition in midlife, it can strongly affect a person’s quality of life and their current and future risk of heart disease, osteoporosis and other issues. So you might think that whether someone is experiencing or has gone through menopause would be noted in their medical records. But when we and our colleagues examined the electronic medical records of almost 240,000 women, only 12% included mention of menopause, even though more than half the women reported separately that they were experiencing this transition. Our findings, published in the journal Menopause, reveal a major gap in how clinicians capture basic information about women’s health.
