When an immigrant entrepreneur's business plan, net worth and source of funds have to tell one financial story - Canadian Accountant

Usman Khalil, RCIC, CPA, is a licensed and regulated Canadian immigration consultant, and founder of MAK Canadian Immigration Services in Mississauga, Ontario. INTERNATIONALLY connected entrepreneurs rarely arrive with a simple financial history. Their capital may have accumulated through employment income, retained corporate earnings, dividends, property sales, family assets, investments or businesses operating across more than one country. By the time those records are used in a Canadian immigration or entrepreneur-related process, the challenge is often not calculating a single number. It is showing that the underlying financial story is coherent.

Why rain turns Burning Man's Black Rock Desert into muggy mess

Burning Man's mud problem is a 15,000-year-old issueBurning Man has seen major impacts from rain and storms during the festival's previous years, which turns the venue into a muddy mess. But the flooding at the Black Rock Desert in Nevada isn't due to the amount of rain that falls; it happens because of the soil on which it falls on. What is going on with the soil here? The Black Rock Desert's origin story dates back 15,000 years. The Desert lies in the lake bed of the ancient Lake Lahontan. This lake deposited sediment that formed an extremely flat surface. Just how flat? In an area of about 119 square miles in the lake bed, the elevation changes by about 3 feet. (BURNING MAN FORECAST: Weather this year could include wildfire smoke, heat and thunderstorms)Get More of Our News on GoogleSet The Weather Company as a 'Preferred Source' to get quicker access to the news you value. The area is flat, but you also have the sediment itself. This sediment-covered soil struggles when water is present. It expands when wet, turning the ground into a very sticky mud that is difficult to traverse.

Severe storms possible Sunday in Saskatchewan and Manitoba

Thunderstorms are expected to form across the Prairies on Sunday, extending from southern Saskatchewan to southern Manitoba. An upper-level low over southern B. C. will move toward the Prairies, pulling moisture north and causing atmospheric instability. That setup could help fuel a series of showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. The greatest concern is in southern Saskatchewan and Manitoba, including areas near Regina and Brandon. Storms may bring strong winds, heavy rainfall and large hail. CHECK OUT: How the weather could be influencing your music tasteStorms could start overnightThe first storms could arrive as early as Saturday night and Sunday morning, particularly in southern Saskatchewan. From there, the threat shifts eastward into southern Manitoba Sunday afternoon, with more storms possible Sunday evening and overnight as a front passes through. Tropical storms Karina and Lowell to become hurricanes as tropical traffic jam continues in the Pacific

THE TAKEAWAYTropical storms Karina and Lowell are likely to become hurricanes. Two other areas to watch carry medium and high chances of development, respectively. Warm waters of the Central and Eastern Pacific are very favorable for tropical development amid strengthening El Niño. More rain targets Upper Midwest putting millions already having wettest year on record under flood threat

THE TAKEAWAY Ridge-riding storms are taking hold of the North this weekend. They're bringing rain to the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes, where some places have seen their wettest year on record. Rain and storms move into the Northeast Monday and hang on through Wednesday. After a few quiet weather days in the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes, a soggy weather pattern is returning through ridge-riding storms, bringing a renewed flash flood threat to the region. As a ridge of high pressure remains across the South, energy and storms will continue riding along its edge from the Northern Plains into the Upper Midwest, Great Lakes and Northeast through early next week. Ridge-riding storms set up(FOX Weather) With plenty of moisture, southerly winds at the ground will be pulling humid air north, allowing storms capable of intense rainfall rates and localized flash flooding every day through Monday. On Sunday and Monday, an area of low pressure coming from the Rockies will increase moisture and instability as it moves into southern Canada. WHAT IS A RIDGE RIDER AND HOW DO THEY FORM?

Bryan Norcross: Dolly's remnants to bring rain and wind to the northeastern Caribbean islands starting today

Dolly is no longer a tropical storm, but the remnant disturbance still carries very gusty winds and pockets of heavy rain. The squally moisture surge will move over Antigua and the surrounding northeastern Caribbean islands today and Puerto Rico and the nearby islands beginning tomorrow. Dolly's moisture will linger until at least Tuesday. On the mountainous islands, heavy rain is possible, which could cause local flooding. Winds could gust to 40 mph or higher in squalls. Stay aware of any alerts issued by the National Weather Service in San Juan. Remnants of Dolly in Atlantic basin (Bryan Norcross)Last updated at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026. There continues to be a slight chance that the leftover disturbance from Dolly will regenerate later this week as it heads in the general direction of Florida. There's no clear signal in the models about where that might happen. There's a high probability that Dolly's remnants will die out over the tall mountains of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, and that will be that. Just in case, the National Hurricane Center is drawing a very low odds potential development area north of the Caribbean islands.

The Kehlani World Tour Makes An Epic Stop in Toronto - Deeds Magazine

Toronto traffic thwarted my plans to catch all of Kehlani’s openers, but I persisted. But I should have expected it, given that this stop on the Kehlani World Tour sold all 16,000 seats in the RBC Amphitheatre! For those who had tickets for her suddenly cancelled show in 2024, this show was a long time coming. Credit: @chaz.arellanoThe first thing I hear as I walk into the venue is the serenading voice of opener, The Arti$t. The New Jersey-born R&B artist expertly engaged the milling audience with different sides of their catalogue, including their viral 2023 single, “Sober”. Before heading off the stage, she made sure to enlist the crowd’s help to say a loud, “Thank you, Kehlani!”Credit: @chaz.arellanoLast but not least is the Grammy Award-winning Durand Bernarr. With an irresistible stage presence and a plethora of props, he took us on a sonic journey starting with his latest album, BERNARR, before diving into older favourites. He thrilled the crowd with his rapturous self-love anthems, impressive vocal runs and spontaneous dancing. By the end of his set, we were all cheering, laughing and feeling ourselves.

Several earthquakes rattle Pacific Ring of Fire in latest burst of seismic activity

It has been an active stretch of seismic activity for the Pacific Ring of Fire over the last few hours. Beginning Friday night, several earthquakes fired off along the active region from California to Indonesia, all ranging in magnitudes from 3.5 and higher. A magnitude 4.8 earthquake started things off last night off the coast of Northern California. At approximately 7:41 p.m. local time, the quake struck about 52 miles west of Petrolia. Heatwaves Around the World: How Technology Is Transforming Urban Heat Preparedness - Expert View by Spherical Insights - Spherical Insights

From AI-powered forecasts and satellites that map urban heat to smart cooling systems and a rapidly expanding global cooling industry, cities are entering a new race: not simply to survive heatwaves, but to prepare for them before they arrive. Extreme heat is no longer simply a seasonal inconvenience. It is becoming a growing threat to public health, infrastructure and everyday life across the world. Recent data from England offers a stark warning: the UK Office for National Statistics estimates that 40,063 deaths in England were associated with the hottest days between 1988 and 2025. The figure does not include the summer of 2026. The UK Health Security Agency separately estimated 2,877 heat-associated deaths during heat episodes in May and June 2026 alone, almost twice the number recorded during the whole of summer 2025.

El Niño Hawaii 2026: Hurricanes, Kona lows & winter forecast

El Niño’s dual season threat to Hawaii’s weatherA strengthening El Niño could reshape Hawaii's weather across two very different seasons — and neither one looks typical. The tropical threat comes first, followed by a winter that trends drier than average with fewer Kona lows than usual. Two seasons, two threats, one overarching patternHawaii has a lot to watch over the next several months, and the threats couldn't look more different. First comes a more active tropical season, raising the chances for nearby storms to bring flooding and dangerous surf.(MORE: Is a record super El Niño inevitable?)Then, as the tropics quiet down, El Niño flips the script. Instead of Hawaii's typically wet winter, conditions trend drier than average — a notable shift from what residents usually expect during the islands' rainy season. El Niño (top) and La Niña (bottom) show opposite shifts in Pacific Ocean patterns, influencing tropical storm activity near Hawaiʻi and the risk of Kona lows in winter. (NOAA)More tropical threats this season El Niño flips the script on where we see the most tropical activity. While it suppresses Atlantic hurricanes, the opposite happens in the Central Pacific.

In Harm’s Way: Mitigating the Health Impacts of Armed Conflict - Duke Global Health Institute

ABOUT THE EVENTAround 2 billion people worldwide live in areas affected by armed conflict, including dozens of ongoing wars, sectarian violence and political instability that forces the displacement of millions of people. Beyond the direct impacts of these conflicts on human health, including the many people who are killed or injured as a result of armed combat, prolonged periods of conflict can have much wider health impacts, such as by worsening environmental conditions that drive disease and disrupting access to medical services and care. This Think Global panel will explore these wider impacts of armed conflict on health, including how disruptions to health systems pose challenges for treatment of chronic diseases and other health conditions. Panelists will offer firsthand perspectives of the obstacles they have faced in delivering healthcare in areas affected by conflict and explore the impact these challenges have on both patients and providers. The discussion will seek to define how global health research can measure and articulate the impacts of conflict on human health, as well as ways that those impacts may be avoided.
