Russia's top diplomat, Sergei Lavrov, is in Iran for the first time since the start of the war for talks with his counterparts in Tehran and to reaffirm Moscow's support for ending the conflict. Iran has appointed a leading figure in its missile programme as the country's new defence minister. More than 50 people are reported to have been killed, after Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen attacked a base used by Saudi-supported government troops in the south of the country. And despite the unrest at home, France's President Macron starts a tour of Gulf nations looking for ways to bring down energy costs in Europe.
