Qatar forges new defence alliances as Doha hosts Global Security Forum

Description

The Global Security Forum has opened in Doha, with regional alliances and emerging security challenges dominating discussions amid concerns over renewed hostilities involving Iran. Qatar's Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister announced plans to establish new defence partnerships and a regional security hub as countries reassess their security arrangements. Delegates from the Middle East and beyond are examining how emerging partnerships, including cooperation involving Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Pakistan, could reshape the region's security architecture. Discussions also focus on threats posed by Yemen's Houthis and the need to strengthen air, maritime and cyber security. The forum comes as longstanding alliances face growing pressure and uncertainty persists over the region's stability. US representatives remain hopeful that Washington will retain a significant role in regional security, even as countries pursue new partnerships beyond traditional American-led arrangements.
