New breast cancer surgery technology introduced at Medicine Hat Regional Hospital - CHAT News Today

The system is designed to help surgeons locate breast lesions that cannot be felt during a physical examination, allowing for more targeted removal of cancerous tissue and potentially reducing complications and the need for additional surgeries. A new Trident HD Imaging Unit in the hospital’s Diagnostic Imaging department is being introduced alongside the technology. “The Trident HD Imaging Unit can be used to help in the detection of lymph nodes and breast cancer by allowing tissue removed during surgery to be imaged in the operating room (OR),” Medicine Hat Regional Hospital general radiology supervisor Lynzee Marsh said in a news release. “This helps the surgeon quickly confirm during surgery that the cancerous tissue and the Magseed have been successfully removed.”The Sentimag system uses magnetic technology to help surgeons locate targeted tissue. Magseed is a small magnetic marker that can be inserted into a breast lesion before surgery, and Magtrace is a magnetic tracer used in sentinel lymph node procedures. The technology offers an alternative to traditional wire localization, which typically requires a wire to be inserted on the day of surgery. Dr.

AI overlords say they want to democratise their technology. Here’s how | Richard Wilson and Clara Long - The Guardian

What’s your “(p)doom” – the percentage chance that rogue AI will create an existential catastrophe? Judging by their recent warnings, it is rising among tech bosses. On 25 September, OpenAI paused training of its latest frontier models as reports of AI agents going rogue mounted. A day later, Australia’s Senate asked the bosses of OpenAI and Anthropic to appear before an inquiry after rogue OpenAI agents broke into US government websites and an Australian health portal. Both declined. Bill Gates, meanwhile, has warned that AI in the wrong hands could “cause a billion deaths”. “No one thinks self-regulation is enough,” he said. Days before, Dario Amodei and Sam Altman, the chief executives of Anthropic and OpenAI, appeared before the UN security council. Amodei warned that AI could become “a risk to humanity as a whole”. Altman said that “if AI is to be democratic, the most important decisions cannot be made by labs in San Francisco alone”. On this, he’s right. Doomsday scenarios aside, AI is already disrupting schools, workplaces and public services, with the most marginalised often feeling the impacts harder and faster.

Team builds resource-sharing technology platform for nonprofits - Phys.org

Nonprofit organizations have historically struggled with underfunding, scarce resources and even identifying what physical, human, social and financial capital they already have. But what if there were an easy way they could share surplus assets with other social enterprises to make better use of their collective resources and increase their community impact? That question led to the creation of SWAP (Sharing With A Purpose), a marketplace for nonprofit organizations to share surplus resources with one another with the help of a technology platform and advanced algorithms. SWAP is already showing promising results, as detailed in a paper published in the journal Operations Research.

Introducing: Hermès H08 Bleu de Malte And Blanc Chantilly - Hodinkee

Hermès brings two new colorways to the H08, alongside a brighter glass fibre case than we've seen before. Hermès has released two new versions of its H08 sports watch. It feels like the H08 has lived a lot of lives in the five years since it was originally released at Watches & Wonders 2021, and these latest releases bring yet another new look to a line that has expanded pretty steadily since then. Here, we have two new versions of the H08, each in a braided glass fiber composite case, but where previous watches that have used this material have coated it in a dark blend of aluminum and slate, with these new watches, Hermès has dropped the slate dust.

Meta Extends Confidential Computing to AI Glasses with Private Processing - infoq.com

Meta has extended Private Processing to AI glasses, using confidential virtual machines (CVMs) for sensitive AI workloads and persistent user context in the cloud. The design combines Trusted Execution Environment (TEEs), remote attestation, anonymous credentials, OHTTP, and encrypted storage. Meta says it supports streaming transcription, contextual search, and long-term recall requiring more computing and persistent state. Basic interactions, such as calls and messages, can run on the glasses, while more advanced workloads require larger models and access to personal context accumulated over time. Meta introduced Private Processing for WhatsApp and Meta AI in 2025 and is now extending the architecture to wearable AI workloads.
