McDavid continues to climb all-time scoring charts in dominant start to season - Oilers Nation

A rested and determined Connor McDavid is a nightmare for opposing NHL teams and a joy to behold for Edmonton Oilers fans. His ascent up the NHL all-time scoring charts has been quick and lethal. His four-point night gave him 1,237 points, which ranks 45th all-time. He will pass Peter Stastney (1,239 in 977 games) later this week and will move ahead of Steven Stamkos (1263), Jean Ratelle (1267), Al MacInnis (1274), Alex Delvecchio (1281), Jarome Iginla (1300), Anze Kopitar (1316), Gilbert Perreault (1326), Pierre Turgeon (1327), Mike Gartner (1335), Denis Savard (1338) and Dave Andreychuk (1338) before the end of the year and rank 34th all-time. By the end of next season, he should be ranked among the top 20 scorers of all time, but he’ll only be at 960 games (maximum) by then. Every player in the top 20, except Mario Lemieux, played at least 1279 games. Some might get bored hearing about McDavid’s accolades, but you shouldn’t. You are witnessing an incredibly gifted player who could surpass 2,200 points. Yes, 2,200. For me, 2,000 is a lock, unless some freak injury occurs, and McDavid looks the best he ever has early on this season.

NHL Notebook: Red Wings ink potential Oilers trade target Alex DeBrincat to 7-year deal - Oilers Nation

NHL Notebook: Red Wings ink potential Oilers trade target Alex DeBrincat to 7-year dealThe Detroit Red Wings have gotten a piece of business done — not a Dylan Larkin trade or a Simon Edvinsson move, mind you — signing winger Alex DeBrincat to a seven-year contract extension. Playing out the final year of a four-year, $7.875 million AAV deal this season, he will get a big raise to $ 13 million per year. The contract will be paid out in salary, a seeming rarity for big-ticket contracts in today’s NHL, and carries a full no-movement clause in the first four years, and modified no-move clauses in the final three years, according to PuckPedia. The 28-year-old Farmington Hills, Mich. native is coming off a 2025-26 season where he tied a career-high 41 goals, setting career bests in assists (44) and points (85). The Red Wings mark the third team DeBrincat has played for in his career after spending his first five seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks, who drafted him 39th overall in the 2016 draft.

(Odd Andersen/AFP via Getty Images)Though most of the world's best curlers have already been on the ice for weeks, the heart of the 2026-27 season began yesterday as the first Grand Slam event, the Co-op Invitational, got underway in Victoria. The powerhouse Canadian teams skipped by Brad Jacobs and Rachel Homan remain intact after winning Olympic gold and bronze, respectively, last winter in Italy. But the start of a fresh Olympic cycle always brings about sweeping changes, and that's certainly the case this season — both on and off the ice.

Red Wings Have No Interest In Trading Simon Edvinsson - Pro Hockey Rumors

Contract negotiations have dragged out the start of the 2026-27 season for Detroit Red Wings’ defenseman Simon Edvinsson. The 23 year old is looking for the first deal after his entry-level contract, which saw him rise into a top-four role on the Red Wings’ blue line. Disagreements in salary have pushed negotiations into mid-October despite Edvinsson being offered short-, mid-, and long-term options. That stall pushed Edvinsson to return to Sweden for training and even request a trade away from the Red Wings. Detroit reportedly has no interest in honoring that request, interim general manager Shawn Horcoff told Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press. Detroit’s decision will lock the team into negotiations with Edvinsson. The market for young defenders boomed over the summer. Three defenders age 23-or-younger signed contracts with an annual average value above $7MM – Los Angeles’ Brandt Clarke, Calgary’s Simon Nemec, and Anaheim’s Pavel Mintyukov. All three defenders signed for five-years, while Philadelphia’s Jamie Drysdale signed a four-year deal carrying a $6.5MM cap hit.
