Stay or go? Breaking down Bichette's upcoming opt-in decision - MLB.com

NEW YORK -- With the World Series set to begin next week, Bo Bichette has a notable decision on his hands. Within five days of the Fall Classic ending, Bichette must decide whether to opt out of the remaining two seasons on his three-year, $126 million contract. Why exactly would Bichette do that? Why would he not? Let’s dig in. Reasons for opting outThere are two primary reasons why Bichette might want to opt out of his deal. One is lifestyle; if he wishes to move on from New York, Bichette could chalk his move from Toronto up to an error in judgment and simply tear it to pieces. Another is competitiveness; if he believes the Mets won’t be a playoff team in 2027, Bichette could look elsewhere. But Bichette has never given any indication that he follows those lines of thought. To the contrary, he recently said he believes the Mets’ young core has what it takes to compete. “The way I look at it is, I think there’s no doubt this team is going to be better next year,” Bichette said in August. “I really believe that.

TORONTO -- For another year, you need to take a few steps back to fully appreciate the Blue Jays’ farm system and its impact on this organization. The Blue Jays’ Top 30 prospects list captures a year of growth and change, but it also captures what’s left. The Blue Jays graduated another group of their more mature prospects in 2026, including Sean Keys, who led the system with 28 home runs across two levels this season. Charles McAdoo also made the jump, another development success story whose tools finally started to flash in the big leagues. Then there was Brett Bateman, a Trade Deadline addition from the Cubs in the Kevin Gausman deal who immediately outplayed expectations. The Deadline also saw the Blue Jays deal Arjun Nimmala -- at the time ranked No. 2 in their system -- to the Angels for José Soriano, who projects to be a cornerstone piece in their rotation. Looking back, this is what stood out in 2026:3 players who forced their way onto the radar this yearRHP Nolan Perry (No.

Elliotte Friedman shares update on Edvinsson, Larkin - Octopus Thrower

It seems like there's a new update on Dylan Larkin and Simon Edvinsson every day. Whether it's conflicting reports or a frustrating rehash of the situation, it seems like the Detroit Red Wings keep getting media attention for all the wrong reasons. As of right now, the Red Wings are navigating two stalemates: one with Simon Edvinsson's contract extension, and the other with Dylan Larkin's trade request. Both seem to have stalled out in recent weeks. Both have invited a feedback loop of sorts with information circulating and recirculating among insiders. This time around, Elliotte Friedman of the 32 Thoughts Podcast has some updates regarding Larkin and Edvinsson -- some good, some more of the same. Where the Red Wings are with EdvinssonBy far the most interesting update comes from what Friedman has heard regarding Edvinsson. When last we left off, Edvinsson had mentioned he would "prefer" a trade out of Detroit. In his most recent press conference, interim GM Shawn Horcoff stated that he has "zero interest" in trading Edvinsson. "I want to keep him," Horcoff added. "Nothing's changed on my part. Simon is someone really hard to come by.

Hiller calls on Maple Leafs forward to help out D with Tanev ruled week-to-week - TSN

TORONTO — Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Jim Hiller isn’t sounding the alarm on his defensive corps just yet. The Leafs announced Thursday that Chris Tanev is out week-to-week with an upper-body injury, reducing Toronto’s defensive depth. Hiller said he was comfortable with the remaining defenceman on his active roster, but he’ll need the Maple Leafs forwards to contribute too. “Tanev’s a good player; that’s well established, but we have other good players,” said Hiller after morning skate. “We just have to help them out a little bit.”Tanev was initially placed on injured reserve Monday, with the move retroactive to Saturday. The 36-year-old defenceman was hurt in Toronto’s 6-3 road win over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday. Tanev skated in five shifts in the first period before leaving the game. “What I was disappointed about a little bit on the trip is I thought we hung our defencemen out to dry just a little bit as a group of forwards with some turnovers, with some tracking,” said Hiller. “I think prior to going out, I thought we really were supporting our defence, getting back hard, not giving up odd-man rushes, and then it was a little bit of the opposite on that road trip.
