Jalen Hurts' future in Philadelphia is now a question mark - TSN

Jalen Hurts has faced questions about his passing efficiency, willingness to run and leadership ability despite winning one Super Bowl MVP award and leading the Philadelphia Eagles to two NFC championships. He faces a challenge bigger and more serious than silencing critics and quieting fickle fans. Hurts has a blood clot in his calf and has to miss at least one game. His health is the top priority now. But the NFL is a business and Hurts’ availability for the remainder of the season is in doubt so it’s fair to wonder about his future in Philadelphia. The 28-year-old quarterback is in the middle of a $255 million, five-year contract that runs through 2028. However, his guaranteed money drops from $51.5 million this season to $22 million next year to zero in 2028. Because the Eagles didn’t restructure his contract to add more guaranteed money after this year, this was viewed as a make-or-break season for Hurts. It seems unfair that a player with Hurts’ resume needed to prove himself again but that’s been the narrative surrounding him since his college days. Hurts was famously benched by Nick Saban at halftime of the national championship game on Jan. 8, 2018.

FIFA to Investigate Peace Prize Awarded to Trump - Newsweek

A FIFA committee will review the "Peace Prize" created last year and awarded to President Donald Trump as part of a broader examination of governance decisions made during Gianni Infantino's presidency. Soccer’s global governing body has recently concluded meetings in Zurich, Switzerland—its international headquarters—after which the FIFA Council said it was in the process of addressing a number of issues that had arisen before, during and after the 2026 World Cup. The Peace Prize will be reviewed by FIFA’s Football Social Responsibility Committee—a review focused on its creation as well as the decision to award it to the U. S. president. "It was decided that the Football Social Responsibility Committee will be tasked to analyze it, provide a proposal, and also, there, a decision will be taken at the next FIFA Council meeting," Infantino said, as quoted by USA Today. FIFA said that the committee would take a decision on the future of the award in December. Newsweek has contacted FIFA and the White House outside of regular working hours for comment. What Is the FIFA Peace Prize? The FIFA Peace Prize, seen as Infantino’s brainchild, was formally unveiled in November 2025.

Maple Leafs trade Jacob Quillan for Aatu Räty - PPP Leafs

Today, the Maple Leafs traded Jacob Quillan and Brandon Buhr for Canucks centre Aatu Räty. Räty just cleared waivers today, so he can be sent directly to the Marlies as long as he has not played in 10 games or been on the roster for 30 days. By bundling Buhr into the deal, the Leafs solve their 50 SPCs problem. Räty is known as a very good faceoff centre, and has not been popular with new Canucks coach Manny Malhotra. Räty is 24 next month and was drafted in the second round by the Islanders in 2021. 🚨 TradeTo #LeafsAatu Raty 23 y/o F, Yr 2/2 $850K - RFATo #CanucksJacob Quillan 24 y/o F, Yr 1/1 $850K - UFA G6Brandon Buhr 24 y/o F, Yr 1/1 $975K - RFATOR adds $850K net cap hit. Friday FTB: a roller coaster of emotions - PPP Leafs

The Leafs lost 5-4 in overtime last night to the Buffalo Sabres. It was a roller coaster of an evening that started great with Auston Matthews scoring a leaping goal from Roslovic. Why Gavin McKenna was benched in Maple Leafs’ loss to Sabres - CityNews Toronto

As the Toronto Maple Leafs watched another multi-goal lead disintegrate, as they could have used a play or two to reset a rink that was increasingly tilting toward Sergei Bobrovsky’s crease, and as 3-on-3 overtime begged for a hero, Gavin McKenna sat upright in the middle of the bench. Toes cold and brow dry, McKenna had a front-row seat as a 4-2 lead for the home side dissolved into a gutsy 5-4 OT win for the banged-up Buffalo Sabres.

Edvinsson Contract Numbers Should’ve Been Obvious from the Get-Go - Detroit Hockey Now

After signing Alex DeBrincat to a contract extension, the Detroit Red Wings find themselves needing to tick the next item on the docket with just over 16 million dollars in cap space left for the season so far. The reality of the NHL and its salary cap rise is that the floor for your best players today is going to often outpace the ceiling of the stars of the literal last year. Detroit has managed to negotiate some of the most team-friendly deals in the league over the last few years, and that includes DeBrincat’s $13 million AAV contract signed earlier this week.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Detroit Red Wings - NHL Game Recap - October 15, 2026 - CBS Sports

DETROIT (AP) Andrew Copp broke a tie with 4:38 left and the Detroit Red Wings sent the Philadelphia Flyers to their franchise record-extending ninth straight loss to start the season, winning 2-1 on Thursday night. The Flyers dropped to 0-6-3. The skid is tied for the ninth-longest in the NHL to open a season, and worst since San Jose started 0-7-2 in 2024-25. Three teams have gone winless in their first 10 games, and the record is held by the New York Rangers, who opened the 1943-44 season with 14 losses and a tie. After Copp put Detroit ahead with a point-blank shot, the Flyers had one more chance but Oliver Bonk shot wide from 10 feet with eight seconds left. The Flyers scored first when Matvei Michkov's baseball swing put a bouncing puck past Daniil Tarasov with 2:28 left in the first period. Dylan Larkin set up the tying goal, passing across the slot on a 2-on-1 to set up Anton Johansson’s first NHL goal at 4:31 of the second period. Johannson is the third Scandanavian rookie to score his first career goal this season for Detroit, joining fellow Swede William Wallinder and Norwegian Michael Brandsegg-Nygard. Tarasov stopped 17 shots. Joseph Woll made 24 saves for Philadelphia.
