Pickleball facility franchisor files for bankruptcy as founder acknowledges business mistake: 'I own it' - Fox Business

Pickleball facility franchisor The Picklr has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection as the company seeks to reorganize after what its founder acknowledged was a costly business mistake tied to early lease guarantees. The indoor pickleball company filed late Friday in the U. S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas, according to a public statement from the company. The Picklr said an investor group led by one of its franchisees has committed $4.5 million in financing, subject to court approval, while Sports Business Journal reported the group has committed $4.8 million to sponsor the reorganization. Founder and CEO Jorge Barragan told SBJ the bankruptcy filing stems in part from The Picklr agreeing to serve as a guarantor for facility lease payments for some early franchisees. Barragan said about 40 locations had those arrangements, which became an untenable burden for the parent company. "We signed, unfortunately, too many corporate guarantees that landed on the holding company, and that’s on us. I own it," Barragan said. "Utilizing [Chapter 11 bankruptcy] is going to allow all of us to work with these landlords to figure out how to create profitable businesses.

Meta says its massive new AI model has caught up to frontier labs like OpenAI and Anthropic - Business Insider

Meta says it's launching the biggest and best AI models it has ever built Meta has launched a new series of AI models, Muse Wonder, that it says has caught up to labs like Anthropic and OpenAI. "Muse Wonder is a much larger and more advanced class of models that brings us to the frontier," CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted on X on Monday. It’s the latest sign that Meta’s big bet on AI — which has raised questions from investors — is paying off after the launch of its personal AI assistant, Muse. Meta is spending hundreds of billions of dollars on AI, prompting some investor doubts earlier this year. The Wonder series comes in two versions: Muse Wonder, a smaller, fast model Meta expects people to use for daily work, and Wonder Full, a larger and more capable version, the company said in a statement. Meta built its new AI models to complete complex multi-step tasks, such as disputing an insurance claim. To handle that, the AIs have features such as memory and the ability to try alternative approaches. The Muse Wonder series was internally codenamed Watermelon, according to a person familiar with the matter.

IREN Is Swapping Bitcoin Mining for AI: Its Business Risks Are Changing, Not Disappearing - TradingView

IREN Limited‘s IREN transformation into an AI infrastructure provider could give it a more durable source of demand than Bitcoin (CRYPTO:$BTC) mining, but the transition comes with a different set of financial pressures. The company is trading cryptocurrency-linked revenue for long-term computing contracts, while taking on the challenge of financing, building and operating infrastructure that AI customers increasingly need. From Bitcoin to AI CloudThe shift is already visible in IREN’s financial results. In fiscal 2026, ended June 30, the company generated $578.2 million in Bitcoin mining revenue, compared with $128.8 million from AI Cloud Services, according to its annual results. AI Cloud revenue increased nearly eightfold from $16.4 million in fiscal 2025, while total revenue rose to $707 million from $501 million. IREN is reallocating electricity and data-center capacity from mining equipment toward computing infrastructure used for AI training and inference, the process of running trained models to generate responses. In its 2026 annual filing, the company said it aims to substantially complete this transition by Dec. 31, 2026.

I've traveled to over 100 countries on my own. I'd recommend these 5 destinations to first-time solo travelers. - Business Insider

After visiting over 100 countries on my own, Italy is one of my favorites. On my 36th birthday, I crossed the border from Uganda into Rwanda, commemorating my 100th country visited as a solo traveler. It was a gift — literally — to have this happen on my birthday, but also a huge feat for me. I took my first solo trip when I was a 25-year-old bartender in New York City. Since then, I've been all over — from popular tourist destinations to off-the-beaten-path destinations like rural Madagascar and tiny islands like Jeju and Nevis — documenting my ventures on my blog, No Man Nomad, along the way. After being privileged enough to see so many corners of the world, I can say with confidence that destinations are simply better suited for new solo travelers. If I had to start this wild, wacky journey all over again, here are five destinations I'd consider for a first-time solo trip.
