"Our ambition at Xbox is to be the number one entertainment company in the world"

Xbox, currently in the midst of multi-round mass layoffs as part of a plan to let a final total of 3200 people go, have announced a new arm of their business which is firmly aimed at milking more cash out of its blockbuster game series via licensing deals. That likely means more stuff along the lines of the recent money-making Minecraft movie and Fallout TV show, though apparently not money-making enough to convince them their game-making business didn't need slashing to the bone. Meanwhile, Minecraft developers Mojang have a new boss who previously spent a decade working on Facebook at Meta.

It Took 4 Google AI Agents Over 27 Hours to Defeat the Ender Dragon in Minecraft Without Help From Humans

Updated: Oct 19, 2026 10:56am UTCGoogle researchers have released a paper claiming that four Google Gemini 4 Argon AI agents just beat Minecraft without any help from humans. It took them just over 27 hours to take down the Ender Dragon in what is believed to be a world first. Of course, it’s not as simple as just turning up and firing arrows at the thing. To reach The End and defeat the Ender Dragon in Minecraft, there are a series of trials you have to complete. You have to get Ender Pearls, Ender Rods, and craft Eyes of Ender, before tracking down a Stronghold and completing a puzzle. This takes a fair bit of farming and requires you to work up through the basic Minecraft tools. To start the test, Google placed a team of four agents into a random Minecraft seed with a goal of defeating the Ender Dragon. According to Google, the agents used in-game chat to coordinate but otherwise had no strategy assigned going in — just a goal. "Each agent controlled a player via an open-source library called Mineflayer and coordinated with its teammates through in-game chat and shared memory," the researchers said. "No one assigned roles or wrote game logic.

This week in PC games: build a better zombie in Stupid Never Dies, glue together houses in Cutout Village, and settle brave new worlds in Star Trek: Outposts Unknown

Hello all! Welcome to another wonderful week of PC games, and mounting bloodlust. As I type these words, a neighbour has started using a leafblower. I hate leafblowers. They are mutant hairdryers from Hell. They scatter my thoughts like the tiny, tiny quantity of leaves in the neighbour's garden – a quantity of leaves you could very easily sweep up by hand in two minutes, if you had even the slightest bit of gumption. What's that? You think I should release vipers into the neighbour's toolshed? What a capital idea! But sadly I don't have any vipers to hand, and besides, I have to finish writing this list of new PC games. There are exactly as many games in the list as there are leaves in the neighbour's garden. He'll be at it for hours, no doubt. Please read, while I order in some fresh vipers.

Edgerunners Season 2 Brings Back Hideo Kojima’s Cyberpunk 2077 Character

Cyberpunk Edgerunners’ second season is out tomorrow, and while I didn’t love the 10-episode story, I’m always down to return to Night City. There are so many familiar sights, and sometimes familiar faces, to see every time we go back. This time, you might recognize one face from not only Cyberpunk 2077, but also from belonging to one of the biggest names in the video game industry. Hideo Kojima, the director of the Metal Gear series, Death Stranding, and the upcoming, Xbox-led Physint, makes a brief appearance in Cyberpunk 2077 as Hideyoshi Oshima, a braindance producer who is visiting Night City during the events of the “Heist” quest. You can find him talking to other hotel guests as you scope out the area while on a job. The character has Kojima’s likeness, so if you know of the guy, it’s easy to spot him. Fast forward six years, and Hideyoshi appears once more in Edgerunners II. I was surprised when I saw him, and then just as the review embargo dropped early this morning, CD Projekt Red confirmed that yep, Kojima did return for the cameo. Spotting a familiar face, chooms? 👀 You may remember seeing him in Konpeki Plaza during The Heist in 2077.
