And if Democrats win the Senate? Well, the Republican president will still be in power for at least the next two years, and it could help the state to have an interlocutor with the White House. Get College TownA weekly newsletter packed with insights about higher ed from Globe journalist Hilary Burns. Enter EmailIt’s an idea that Deaton, 59, is pitching in an attempt to turn what might be his biggest liability into an asset in his uphill battle against 80-year-old Markey. Not surprisingly in deep blue Massachusetts, Markey has made Deaton’s party ID the centerpiece of the campaign against him. “Mr. Deaton is the elephant in the room. He’s going to be another vote for Donald Trump down on the floor in the United States Senate,” Markey said during the debate. “He will be the key vote giving the majority to the Republicans to keep their monopoly in the House, Senate, and presidency.”Never mind that Deaton says he has never voted for Trump and proffers a strong antiestablishment sentiment; he carries the scarlet “R” next to his name.

Trump loomed large in debate between Sen. Markey and Repulican challenger Deaton

President Trump was a looming presence in Tuesday night’s debate between Democratic Sen. Ed Markey and Republican challenger John Deaton. From the outset, Markey sought to tie Deaton to the unpopular president, while Deaton tried to talk about anything else. "I'm going to Washington to be a check on Donald Trump," Markey said at the start of the debate. "Mr. Deaton is going to Washington to be a blank check for Donald Trump. "If Deaton wins, Markey said the Massachusetts Republican would be a vote to continue the GOP majority in the Senate and the Trump agenda. But Deaton pushed back angrily, accusing Markey of knowingly misrepresenting his record. “Let's get something straight right now,” Deaton said to Markey. “You know I've never voted for President Trump. I’ve never supported President Trump. I've never endorsed President Trump. "The debate, the only one scheduled between the two, represented Deaton’s best chance to gain ground on Markey, who is running well ahead in the polls. Deaton, 59, is making his second bid for the Senate after losing to Sen. Elizabeth Warren two years ago.

And so, each time I hear a noise I'm wondering if it's going to be something outside, or you know someone hurt. And so, I just really want them to make a difference," Taylor said. Taylor said neighbors told her previous owners of the property experienced similar problems.

Why drug companies are rushing to market ketamine medicines

For now, Spravato is the only psychedelic treatment on the market approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Because ketamine lost its patent protection decades ago, many of the companies are engaged in what’s known as drug repurposing, the potentially lucrative approach to finding new uses for old medicines. Get Starting PointA guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter EmailRepurposing dramatically cuts the time and expense associated with discovering an entirely new therapeutic compound and establishing whether it’s safe and effective. The protections granted by the FDA essentially give an applicant years of exclusivity on their repurposed compound. Sometimes it’s just a matter of putting an old drug in a new package. Take Ketafree, developed by the company NRx Pharmaceuticals. Ketafree is essentially ketamine without benzethonium chloride, or BZT, a preservative used in scores of drugs. The company is pursuing an unusual, two-pronged approach it hopes will give Ketafree an edge over its would-be competitors.
