Heavy rain warning as Storm Austen sweeps across Scotland - BBC

Scotland is braced for a wet and windy weekend as two named storms hit in two days. Storm Austen is the first to sweep across the country, with the Met Office issuing a yellow warning for rain in central and eastern areas from 07:00 on Friday until midnight. Forecasters say some places could experience 60-80mm of rain, with a risk of flooding and travel disruption. Storm Boelo will follow hard on its heels on Saturday, with another yellow weather warning issued, this time for high winds, for the whole of mainland Scotland, the Western Isles and Orkney. The wind warning will come into force from 18:00 on Saturday and last until 21:00 on Sunday. The wind speeds are expected build on Saturday afternoon, reaching a peak overnight. Gusts of 50-65mph are forecast widely and could reach 80mph in exposed locations. The storm will also bring wet and windy weather across the whole of the UK on Saturday, with poor travelling conditions expected due to surface water and spray on faster roads and motorways.

Trump’s Tacky Arch Project Hit With New Setback - The Daily Beast

ARCH ENEMIESA group of veterans is moving to put the brakes on Trump’s vanity project as he scrambles to fast-track it. Kevin Dietsch/Getty Images President Donald Trump’s quest to build a 250-foot-tall “triumphal arch” has hit its latest roadblock as he tries to speed the project toward construction. The president’s lawyers laid out an eye-popping timeline in court filings Wednesday, revealing that Trump is hoping to secure permission for the gargantuan monument and begin work as early as Nov. 5. But three veterans and a retired architectural historian suing the Trump administration to stop construction of the tacky arch moved to slam the brakes on the project on Thursday, asking District Judge Tanya Chutkan to prohibit the administration and the National Park Service “from taking any steps to construct, or to direct or facilitate construction of, any structure in Memorial Circle, absent congressional authorization, during the pendency of this litigation,” according to the Associated Press. Trump holds a model of an arch as he delivers remarks during a ballroom fundraising dinner.

Trump, Musk, Zelenskyy: who is blaming who in the Ukraine-Starlink row? - The Guardian

A war of words has erupted between the Trump administration, officials in Kyiv and Elon Musk over who is to blame for limiting Ukraine’s access to Space X’s military-grade version of Starlink. The restrictions to Starshield have rendered many of the drones used by Kyiv to strike behind the frontlines inoperable and hampered air defence systems that stop Russian attacks, according to Ukrainian officials. Donald Trump said on Thursday that the service was running again at full speed, but a European official speaking to the Associated Press denied the service was fully functioning. Amid the diplomatic handwringing, civilian casualties in Ukraine have surged, and the question over who is ultimately responsible for limiting Kyiv’s access has remained unanswered.1. Donald TrumpThe restrictions came as relations between the US and Ukraine hit their lowest point since Russia’s full-scale invasion nearly five years ago. Donald Trump has accused Ukraine of driving up diesel costs for Americans through its attacks on Russian oil refineries.
