Paying for the past: Norway's finder's fees favor gold's weight over what it tells us - Phys.org
The Skaun hoard (T27224/1 and T27224/2), made up of "payment gold" dated to around A. D. 200–550. Credit: Åge Hojem; CC BY-SA 4.0 NTNU, University Museum in Axelsen and Skare 2026 Ten years ago, in 2016, a metal detectorist came upon a hoard of gold. It had been buried in the dirt for around 1,800 years and consisted of around 396 grams (14 ounces) of gold rings. The detectorist handed in his finds to a museum and received the largest finder's fee ever paid out in Norwegian history. He had been rewarded for the gold weight, not its rarity.

Introducing the New Small Business Cybersecurity Support Program Finder - National Institute of Standards and Technology (.gov)
For small businesses who are often confronted with limited resources, knowing how to get started and where to find support with planning, implementing, or evaluating a cybersecurity risk management strategy can be challenging — sometimes making cybersecurity feel like an insurmountable hurdle. However, there is good news. Many non-profit organizations across the United States have created programs for their local small business communities (in addition to local schools, municipal governments, and non-profits) that often extend beyond general cybersecurity education to include services like conducting risk assessments and penetration tests, performing compliance consulting services, helping with incident preparedness and response measures, and more. The NIST Small Business Cybersecurity Support Program Finder brings these programs together into one tool, connecting small businesses with local non-profit community partners who help with cybersecurity risk management. Explore the ToolSelecting a state on the interactive map will present a list of programs, as shown in the graphic below. A table of programs alphabetized by state is also provided below the map for users to browse.

Treasury blueprints carve-outs from ROAD’s Wall Street BTR ban
The devil in the details of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, America’s most ambitious bipartisan housing policy measure in a half-century, amounts to a highly complex, high-stakes, high-wire act for both global capital investment and residential development players navigating the law’s black-and-white and grey areas for the near- and longer-term future commitments in the space. On Thursday, the U. S. Department of the Treasury released a notice of proposed rulemaking that would grant build-to-rent (BTR) communities a range of notable exemptions from the institutional investor ban lawmakers included in the bill. The final version of ROAD explicitly stated that investors who own 350 or more single-family homes will not be eligible to acquire additional properties, while exempting newly built BTR communities from that restriction. The ban takes effect on January 7, 2027.

Why mortgage leaders are betting on home equity through 2027
At this year’s Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) Annual Convention & Expo, mortgage executives identified home equity lending, borrower retention and technology as key priorities heading into 2027. Homeowners are increasingly using second-lien products, including home equity loans and home equity lines of credit (HELOCs), to fund renovations, consolidate debt and finance real estate investments while keeping their existing mortgages intact. “More and more folks are really wanting to renovate, not relocate,” said Joey McDuffee, vice president of sales and marketing at Blue Sage Solutions. Some of Blue Sage’s clients have increased monthly home equity production from about 200 units to 2,000, McDuffee said. Although purchase lending will remain central to the market, a meaningful refinance recovery could still be years away. Tom Davis, chief sales officer at Deephaven Mortgage, expects home equity originations to reach about $150 billion in 2026, compared with roughly $180 billion in nonqualified mortgage (non-QM) lending. By 2027, home equity could surpass non-QM lending by loan count, he said.

Jackson Pollock’s Former ‘Urban Treehouse’ in Greenwich Village Has Hit the Market for $2 Million
A Greenwich Village loft that once served as the home and studio of a young Jackson Pollock is up for grabs for $1.99 million. The single-bedroom abode sits on the top floor of a Federal-style townhouse—46 Carmine St.—which was built in 1827. In 1932, a then 20-year-old Pollock and his brother, Charles Pollock, called it home. According to the listing, the siblings were studying under painter Thomas Hart Benton at the time. Before the legendary abstract expressionist artist moved in, 46 Carmine St. had already begun its storied past. In the 1850s, a milliner sold hats and bonnets from a lower level, and many more artists lived and worked in the building through the 1930s. A Greenwich Village loft that was once the home of artist Jackson Pollock has hit the market for $1.99 million. DDRepsThe home has been renovated, but original details remain, including the exposed beams and brick. DDRepsA decorative fireplace serves as a bar.
