ByteDance, Alibaba, Tencent place over US$35 billion worth of Nvidia chip orders: Reuters exclusive
Published: October 20, 2026 at 1:45p.m. EDTBNN Bloomberg is Canada’s definitive source for business news dedicated exclusively to helping Canadians invest and build their businesses. ByteDance, Alibaba and Tencent have ordered more than three million of Nvidia’s new RTX PRO 5500 graphics cards with a collective sticker price of over US$35 billion, two people familiar with the matter said, in a rush for a less powerful but export-compliant chip amid U. S. restrictions on trade with China. US-based chipmaker Nvidia has told customers and partners it cannot guarantee that it can fill the orders because demand from Chinese technology companies far exceeds planned production, the two sources and a third person familiar with the matter said. They requested anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to the media. The RTX PRO 5500 is a workstation chip, designed for powerful professional computers rather than the large data-center clusters that use Nvidia’s most advanced AI processors. But it is among the most powerful Nvidia chips that are still available to Chinese buyers. Nvidia’s Blackwell-based B300 data-center chip is not allowed to be sold to Chinese buyers under U. S.

Amazon exec says finding the right FDE talent is challenging: 'These are unicorns' - Business Insider
Amazon Web Services vice president for forward-deployed engineering, Asa Kalavade, said the company is looking for a specific skill set. Forward-deployed engineers are one of the hottest jobs in AI. Finding them isn't easy. "These are unicorns," Asa Kalavade, vice president of forward-deployed engineering at Amazon Web Services, told Business Insider. Like its rivals, Amazon has made a big bet on the future of FDEs. In June, AWS announced a $1 billion investment to create a dedicated AWS FDE organization. Popularized by Palantir, FDEs are often embedded with companies to integrate AI into their workflows and to build more customized solutions. Anthropic, OpenAI, and Microsoft have announced major initiatives in recent months to compete for the lucrative enterprise AI business. Forrester estimates that between May and July alone, the three companies and Amazon pledged roughly $9 billion to FDE-related ventures. "FDE hiring is sort of the rage in town these days," Kalavade said. "Everybody wants to be an FDE. "Amazon is being selective as it builds the team, Kalavade said, initially focusing on engineers who can hit the ground running.

New films like Obsession and Send Help have touched on the idea, with commentary touching on power dynamics and bodily control.

New lawsuit filed challenging Trump’s tariffs on Canada
Trade WarUpdated: October 20, 2026 at 3:46p.m. EDTPublished: October 20, 2026 at 3:32p.m. EDTPresident Donald Trump speaks in the Oval Office of the White House on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2026, in Washington. (AP Photo/Jacquelyn Martin) A lawsuit challenging U. S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs targeting Canada has been filed in the United States Court of International Trade. The lawsuit, filed Tuesday by the non-profit Liberty Justice Center on behalf of U. S. food importer Gellert Global Group, argues Trump’s use of a Depression-era trade statute exceeds his power as president. Trump used Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930 to slap an array of Canadian goods with a 50 per cent levy after trade talks broke down in August. The same statute was used the following month to ban the import of other Canadian goods, including motorcycles and some alcohol and dairy products. Liberty Justice Center CEO Sara Albrecht says in a news release that no president should have the power to pull a dormant statute off the shelf and use it to impose sweeping tariffs or import bans. The lawsuit asks the court to declare the tariffs unlawful and order a refund. Kelly Geraldine Malone, The Canadian Press
