Popular restaurant on Upper East Side closing after four decades

FOOD & DRINKSaturday, October 24, 2026 3:43AMStream New York's #1 news - AccuWeather - original content 24/7UPPER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) -- A popular restaurant on Manhattan's Upper East Side is preparing to serve its final meal after more than four decades in business. "I'm going to miss the fact that they always know what we're going to order," customer Jonathan Steinman said. The Owner of Mezzaluna, Aldo Bozzi, said quality has been the focus since he opened the restaurant 42 years ago. "There was some mediocre olive oil around — you know the one that you find in the basic super market? So I imported my olive oil," Bozzi said. The olive oil came straight from Tuscany, helping bring authenticity to Mezzaluna and contributing to its long-running success. "My daughter is inside with her friends. They used to come here when they were in high school. We have three generations of customers," Bozzi said. Despite the restaurant's success, rising business costs in New York City have made operating more challenging. Those costs, along with a costly renovation ahead, led Bozzi to decide against renewing his lease for another 10 years. Top StoriesMezzaluna is scheduled to close Nov. 1.

Drew O’Keefe, Central Catholic seize the moment in Merrimack Valley clash against Andover

ANDOVER — In a tight battle for Merrimack Valley Conference supremacy, Drew O’Keefe decided to take a chance. Central Catholic’s jack of all trades had to shift from safety to linebacker following an injury to senior captain Armari Mills. In his new role, the senior jumped a pitch from Andover quarterback John Stadler to star back Marcus DeJesus on an option play, snatching the ball for a 40-yard fumble return that flipped the contest during a wild first half, allowing the fifth-ranked Raiders to eventually pull away for a 42-24 victory over No. 6 Andover. “My job there was [to cover the] quarterback but I saw the pitch coming and shot the gap,” said O’Keefe, a receiver, defensive back, and kicker, who logged his first snaps at outside linebacker this season. “Sometimes you gotta take a risk. And I was rewarded for it.” O’Keefe’s play followed a 40-yard pick-6 from Athaniel Urena, who added a second interception in the fourth quarter to deny Andover’s comeback bid.
